Langkawi, Kedah (II) - Day 1 (Langkawi Sky Bridge - Pantai Cenang)
In December 2024, we visited Langkawi with my partner's family, travelling there by ferry from Kuala Kedah. Last month, our supplier from Taiwan, Alan, came to Malaysia and was keen to visit Langkawi since it was his first time there. This time, instead of taking the ferry, we flew from Penang International Airport because another supplier from Penang, Jon, experiences seasickness and couldn’t travel by ferry. The total cost for the return flight tickets from Penang to Langkawi was RM1,039.95 for five people, which came to RM207.99 per person.
We were not particularly keen to go at first as it was quite a last-minute plan and we had already visited Langkawi before, so it didn’t feel very new or exciting for us. However, we tagged along since it’s the company that matters. This was our second trip together as a group. The first trip we made together was to Hat Yai back in 2023.
The night before our trip, all of us stayed at Jon’s place. The next morning, we woke up at 6.15am, and he booked a 6-seater Grab at 7am from Tanjung Bungah to Penang International Airport. The car felt quite cramped, and both Dena and I had to sit at the back. My partner sat in the second-row seat and had to hug a 24-inch luggage bag throughout the journey since the luggage space was limited.
During the one-hour ride, the lack of space gradually became uncomfortable for me. The back seat felt tightly packed, with very little room to move or adjust my posture. Combined with the limited legroom and the overall crowded setup, I started to feel quite claustrophobic. It felt like I was enclosed in a tight space with no proper room to stretch, and as time passed, the discomfort and sense of pressure increased. I mainly focused on staying still and waiting for the ride to end once we reached the airport.
Check-in at the airport was smooth as we already had our e-boarding passes, so we could head straight to the departure area. AirAsia was quite strict about cabin luggage and required bags to be within the 7kg limit, although our luggage was not checked in the end. After clearing check-in, we went to OldTown White Coffee for breakfast, and my partner ordered half-boiled eggs with coffee.
Boarding was at 9.30am, and it was a short 25-minute flight. In fact, it was one of the shortest flights we have ever taken. The flight departed at 10am and landed at Langkawi Airport at 10.16am. I was seated at the window seat alone, next to a larger-sized Western passenger. The rest of us were seated separately, except Alan and Jon, who were seated next to each other.
Upon arrival, my partner had already arranged the rental of a 6-seater Toyota Avanza at Langkawi Airport for 3 days and 2 nights. The rental cost was RM 200. The car rental representative was waiting for us at Food Garden, where we met him at around 10.40am to pick up the vehicle.

After brunch, Jon drove us to the Langkawi Sky Bridge. The Sky Cab admission for seniors was RM 30, compared to the adult price of RM 43. The ticket package includes Sky Cab, Sky Dome, Sky Rex, and 3D Art Langkawi. Buying tickets via Klook is generally cheaper, but the senior ticket has to be purchased at the counter. So my partner bought our tickets through Klook instead. In total, for the five of us (Malaysian adults and a non-Malaysian adult), the cost came to RM 236 (RM 39 for Malaysian adults and RM 80 for the non-Malaysian adult).
We didn’t go for the Eagle's Nest or the Sky Bridge walk. Instead, we just explored the area and took the cable car up to the top station. The main reason Alan wanted to visit this place was to see the Eagle's Nest, as he has a strong interest in eagles. We spent about an hour up there before heading down to the Sky Dome to watch BoBoiBoy. The Sky Dome is a 360-degree dome theatre experience, where the show is projected all around you, creating an immersive viewing effect. The seats can also be tilted back, allowing you to watch while feeling like you’re looking up at the sky. Most importantly, it was very cold inside the dome, which made the whole experience even more comfortable and enjoyable. The show lasted about 5 minutes.
Next, we went to Sky Rex to watch the dinosaur experience. It was a short 4D-style ride where we sat in a moving vehicle while watching a dinosaur-themed adventure on screen. The seats moved and shook along with the scenes, which made it feel more realistic and fun, especially during the action parts when the dinosaurs appeared. It was quite an entertaining experience even though it was brief.
Lastly, we went to the 3D Art Langkawi. It’s an interactive gallery filled with large hand-painted 3D murals and optical illusion artworks designed for photo-taking. Each section has different themed backgrounds, such as wildlife, underwater scenes, and fantasy settings, where you can pose in creative ways to make the images look more realistic and fun. We spent some time walking through the gallery and taking photos at different spots. It was quite enjoyable and light-hearted, especially as everyone tried different poses and angles to get the best illusion shots.
After finishing, we actually walked in the wrong direction of the carpark before realizing it and turning back. On the way, we even spotted a dusky leaf monkey at the carpark area, which was a nice little surprise. We left the area at 3.45pm and checked in to Mercure Hotel at around 4.20pm.

After checking in, we took a shower and went out again at around 5.30pm. My partner and Alan went for a foot massage at the first shop they came across, but there were only two spots available. So the rest went to a different massage parlour. I didn’t join them for the massage. Instead, I walked over to Underwater World Langkawi and then made my way to Pantai Cenang. I also passed by Coco Valley, and the whole area felt quite quiet and almost dead, with not much crowd or activity around.
After that, I stopped by an ice cream shop called Mytee Ice Cream and bought a vanilla soft serve cone for RM 2.50. The first bite had a slight crystallized ice texture, but after that it became smooth and creamy. It wasn’t anything outstanding, but the vanilla flavour was stronger compared to McDonald’s and not overly sweet, which made it quite refreshing after walking in the hot weather. I then walked back to the hotel and waited for them at the lobby around 7pm for dinner. The weather throughout the evening was hot and humid.

During the massage session, the masseur also recommended a sunset viewing spot to my partner. On the way to Orkid Ria Seafood Restaurant for dinner, we stopped somewhere along the way to take some photos of the sunset, although I can’t remember the exact location.

We had our dinner at Orkid Ria Seafood Restaurant. We ordered seaweed soup, signature butter tiger prawns, live tiger grouper steamed with lime (Thai style), garlic broccoli, salted egg squid, and kangkung sambal. We also had 5 portions of rice (RM12.50), one jug of iced water, one jug of Guinness, one coconut, and two glasses of Chinese jasmine tea (small).
The highlight of the meal was definitely the tiger prawns. They were very fresh and full of flavour. The squid was also tender and nicely cooked. The seaweed soup was light and clear, with a hint of celery taste. The fish sauce was just average, nothing particularly impressive. The broccoli was cooked perfectly, while the kangkung sambal was only so-so. Overall, the meal was enjoyable, especially the prawn dishes, which stood out the most.

On the way back to our hotel, we passed by a gelato shop and decided to stop for dessert. I had the pistachio ice cream, which was creamy and smooth, with a light sweetness. It was quite good overall. After that, we headed back to the hotel. My partner was having some throat irritation, so once we reached the hotel, we walked over to Watsons at Cenang Mall to get some over-the-counter medicine. It had been a full day of travelling, exploring, and good food, so everyone was quite tired by then. We called it a night early and rested well, getting ready for the next day’s plan in Langkawi.
