Langkawi, Kedah (II) - Day 3 (Kota Mahsuri)

It was our last day in Langkawi, and we began the morning with an early wake-up at 8am. We checked out of the Mercure Hotel by 9.30am and met Henry for breakfast at Sunday Restaurant. I ordered the char kuey teow, which was decent but nothing particularly outstanding, served with bean sprouts, egg, and Chinese sausage. My partner had the porridge, which was quite flavourful with a rice-like texture rather than the usual congee style. After breakfast, Henry took us to the Petronas Kelibang to look at a potential carwash site. We then visited his factory, where he produces shower gel for hotels.

Later, we went to Kota Mahsuri and arrived around 12.30 pm. The entrance fee was RM 15 for adults and RM 20 for foreigners. Kota Mahsuri is a cultural and historical complex that tells the legend of Mahsuri, a young woman from Langkawi who was wrongly accused and executed and whose story is deeply tied to the island’s history. The site includes traditional Malay houses, exhibits, and displays that explain her life, the curse said to have followed her death, and how it shaped Langkawi’s past. It felt like walking through a small heritage village, though it was quite warm inside as we explored the area.

We spent almost an hour exploring Kota Mahsuri and later went for a late lunch at 3pm Dessert Cafe. We ordered an omelette with sourdough, a tuna egg sandwich, a buttermilk mixed berries pancake, a big breakfast, and pistachio cake. The cake was very sweet but soft and spongy. The strawberry ade was refreshing, served with soda and strawberry puree, though it tasted slightly like cough syrup. Overall, the food was just okay, nothing too impressive, but still enjoyable enough for a relaxed late lunch.

(Total bill - RM 165)

We left the cafe at 3.25 pm and headed to the airport, which was about a 25-minute drive (16 km). We returned the car at 4pm and waited for boarding until 5pm for AirAsia. Since we did not purchase seat selection, all of us were seated separately. Boarding started at 5.20pm and the flight departed at 5.30pm. We landed at Penang International Airport about 40 minutes later. Overall, it was a short but meaningful trip filled with good food, interesting places, and plenty of time spent together. Even though it was our last day in Langkawi, the journey back still felt smooth and memorable.
