AC Kitchen - Ipoh, Perak

During our recent stay at AC Hotel Ipoh, the hotel provided us with complimentary breakfast for two at AC Kitchen. The breakfast buffet was served from 6.30am to 10.30am, offered a mix of local Malaysian favourites and Western breakfast selections.

The spread included nasi lemak, ayam goreng berempah, chicken congee, fried mee siam, baked beans, hash browns, fried eggs, fresh fruits, yogurt, local pastries, and a variety of beverages such as white coffee and teh tarik. While the selection was acceptable, the variety was quite limited and some of the food quality could be improved.

The fried eggs were a little disappointing, as they lacked the crispy edges I usually enjoy. The hash browns tasted oily and were quite hard, while some of the baked beans seemed undercooked. The nasi lemak was fragrant and paired nicely with the spicy sambal, although the anchovies were slightly too hard and salty. The ayam goreng berempah was average, and the chicken congee tasted rather bland. We also did not quite enjoy the fried mee siam.

As for the desserts and drinks, the strawberry yogurt was too sweet for my liking. The white coffee, however, stood out as it was rich, aromatic, not overly sweet, and had a pleasant hint of bitterness. The teh tarik was also on the sweeter side. Apart from that, the papaya tasted as though it had been prepared the night before, but my partner especially enjoyed the cekodok pisang (banana fritter balls).

Overall, the breakfast offered a mix of local and Western items, but the variety was limited and the food quality did not fully meet our expectations. However, the staff were attentive, and the food labelling throughout the buffet area was clear and well organised.
