Langkawi, Kedah - Day 2 (Langkawi Sky Bridge - Kilim Geoforest Park)

During our stay at Wings by Croske Resort Langkawi, our package included a buffet breakfast for two. The restaurant was clean, well-maintained, and organized. The buffet offered a wide variety of options, including vegetarian, Malay, Chinese, American, and Indian food. Choices included nasi lemak, ham, curly fries, sausages, baked beans, pasta, chapati, naan, porridge, a noodle station, an egg station, cereals, pastries, salad, fruits, chilled juice, and coffee. The food was served warm, and I enjoyed their porridge. However, the anchovies were hard rather than crispy. They served a variety of chicken dishes, but the chicken textures were mushy.

The night before, we informed the van driver to pick us up at 8.45am to visit the Langkawi Sky Bridge, which was about an 18-minute drive (12.9km) from the Wings by Croske Resort Langkawi. We arrived early, but the ticket counter didn't open until 9.30am. Instead of waiting, we considered buying the ticket online. However, we found out that they do not have tickets available online for the elderly, which were slightly cheaper than adults. In the end, we queued and waited for the ticket counter to open. The toilet at the base cost RM 1 per entry, but it was free at the middle and top stations.

There were several different types of packages, which we found very confusing. In the end, we bought tickets for the Sky Cab (cable car) and Sky Bridge. Since the Sky Glide (a cabin with glass windows) was under maintenance, we had to take the nature walk to reach the Sky Bridge. The nature walk was quite challenging, especially for the elderly, as it involved walking down many steps to get to the bridge. To return to the Sky Cab station, we had to take the same route back.

Operation time:
1. Sky Cab: 9.30am to 6pm (normal operation) / 9am to 6.30pm (public holiday)
2. Sky Bridge: 10am to 5.30pm (nature walk) / 10am to 6pm (Sky Glide)

Ticket prices:
1. Sky Cab admission (Sky Cab + Sky Dome + Sky Rex + 3D Art Langkawi): International - RM 85/adult | MyKad - RM 43/adult
2. Sky Bridge combo (Sky Cab + Sky Dome + Sky Rex + 3D Art Langkawi + Sky Bridge nature walk): International - RM 89/adult | MyKad - RM 47/adult
3. Machinchang Petland combo (Sky Cab + Sky Dome + Sky Rex + 3D Art Langkawi + Machinchang Petland): International - RM 121/adult | MyKad - RM 64/adult
4. Eagle's Nest Sky Walk combo (Sky Cab + Sky Dome + Sky Rex + 3D Art Langkawi + Eagle's Nest Sky Walk): International - RM 130/adult | MyKad - RM 68/adult
5. 6D Cinemotion combo (Sky Cab + Sky Dome + Sky Rex + 3D Art Langkawi + 6D Cinemotion): International - RM 112/adult | MyKad - RM 56/adult
6. Sky Bridge nature walk (ticket counter at top station): RM 6/adult
7. Sky Glide (ticket counter at top station): RM 16/adult

The Sky Cab took us from the base to the middle station (650m from sea level), where the Eagle Nest Skywalk was located. There was an entrance fee of RM 28 for adults, and bags were not allowed inside. Lockers were available to store your personal belongings. Only two handphones were allowed, and a casing with a strap was provided. Besides that, we had to wear shoe covers. The glass floor, which had a total thickness of 39.04mm, was not as scary as it seemed.

We took a break at the mid-station cafe and ordered an iced lemon tea and a plate of pasta for his niece. However, the carbonara pasta was too salty for my taste and slightly undercooked.

After our break, we rode the Sky Cab to the top station (708m from sea level) and walked at least three hundred stairs to reach the Sky Bridge. We were sweating by the time we reached the Sky Bridge. The weather was really hot, but when the wind blew, it got a bit chilly.

We took another break at the Sky Bistro. My partner ordered a glass of orange asam boi, which was refreshing. His parents ordered pizza, and we each grabbed a slice before heading down to the base. It was a nice place to relax, as the weather was windy and cool.

While we waited for our driver to pick us up at 1.15pm, we bought a cup of classic roasted milk tea with grass jelly from Tealive. Our next stop was Kilim Geoforest Park, which was about a 35-minute drive (25.5km) from Langkawi Sky Bridge.

Vans were not allowed to enter the Kilim jetty area. A buggy service was available for RM 2 per person, but the distance between the parking area and the jetty was only about 100m. In fact, it was an easy walk, so using the buggy service was not necessary.

There were three types of packages (maximum 10 people/boats):
1) Package A: RM 350 - Included visits to the bat cave, a fish feeding session at the fish farm, eagle watching, the Andaman Sea, the Kilim Geoforest Park Icon, crocodile cave, and mangrove sightseeing
2) Package B: RM 450 - Included everything in package A, with an additional stop for swimming at Long Beach
3) Package C: RM 500 - Included everything in package B, along with swimming, snorkeling, and fish feeding at Dangli Island

We chose package A, and the boat was large enough to accommodate all ten of us. There were no toilets available at the jetty area. In addition, safety jackets were not provided during the boat ride.

Our first stop was the bat cave. We had to pay an admission fee of RM 2 per person to enter. Renting a torch light cost RM 1, and it was necessary to see the bats. If you lose, damage, or drop the torchlight, you will be required to pay a compensation fee of RM 25. The cave was small and dark. My partner walked so fast with his mom that we completely missed the bats. Luckily, I asked them to turn back, and we were able to spot the bats by shining the torchlight on the cave walls. There were many of them hanging upside down from the ceiling.

When we were about to leave the cave, we heard a lady screaming and running towards us. It seemed that the monkeys were trying to attack her when she walked out of the cave. We got scared and decided to turn around and walk back to the jetty. However, when we reached the jetty, we saw a lot of monkeys roaming around the area. One of them even stroked my partner's leg as he walked past him. I was trying not to make eye contact with the monkeys and was glad that they did not disturb me when I walked past them.

We had our late lunch at Amin Floating Restaurant. The boat took us there, and the restaurant was empty. We waited for more than half an hour for our food to arrive. I wonder what took them so long to cook our dishes since we were their only customers. Later, some tourists came, and their food came even faster than ours! When the food arrived, the tom yam didn't taste good, and the vegetables were too salty. Besides that, their mango salad tastes like pickled cucumber. The best dishes of the day are butter chicken and sweet and sour prawns. This was one of the most expensive meals we had in Langkawi, and we felt like tourists being overcharged, as the fish was definitely overpriced.

Fish price:
a) Hybrid grouper - RM 25/100g
b) Red snapper - RM 24/100g
c) Fisher grouper - RM 21 /100g
d) Seabass - RM 18/100g

(Total bill - RM 533)

By the time we finished eating our late lunch, it was almost 4pm. The same boat took us to the crocodile cave, followed by eagle watching. Then he drove us along the river, stopping at a mangrove tree to show us a small anaconda. The ride ended with the Kilim Geoforest Park Icon. The highlight of this river tour is the eagle watching, but it is only worth doing once.

Our driver came and picked us up at the jetty car park around 4.40pm. The journey back to our hotel takes around 30 minutes. I was grateful that my partner switched places with me and sat in the van's last row, which was cramped and uncomfortable.

Halim GP was about an 11-minute walk (800m) from our hotel. However, since we were traveling with elderly family members, the driver drove us there around 7.30pm. We invited the driver to join us for dinner as well. This eatery had been recommended by my partner's friend. I enjoyed their fried fish very much. It was crispy and perfectly seasoned with salt. Besides that, their sambal was delicious and best eaten with the fried fish. The fried squid was good too. It was crispy and flavourful. The fried fish was so good that we ordered a second serving. So far, it was the best meal we had in Langkawi. After dinner, we returned to the hotel and relaxed by drinking beer and chatting.

(Total bill - RM 377)
