Shin Boon Kee - Penang

Image
Chai buey (spicy and sour mustard green stew) mean leftover vegetables in Hokkien is generally consists of leftover meats and vegetables. It's a popular dish among the Hokkiens and often cooked during Chinese New Year. I never had chai buey before and the first time I had it was at my partner's hometown during Chinese New Year. It's really good. It's a very appetizing dish due to the spicy and tangy taste. Our friend Mu Mu recommended us to try this Shin Boon Kee shop and guess what? This is one of the best chai buey that I had so far. It has the perfect spicy, sweet and sour balance. All my taste buds come alive after eating this chai buey. We ordered via Grab food a packet of chai buey and one portion of chicken rice with roasted drumsticks and roasted pork for our late lunch when we were staying at  Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa . Not only the chai buey is superb but also their chicken rice is good too. Chicken is tender and juicy. It's so good th

Ali Nasi Lemak Daun Pisang - Penang

Image
Ali nasi lemak daun pisang is a stall selling nasi lemak in front of the Sri Weld Food Court. Selling at RM 2 per packet, this nasi lemak is nicely wrapped with banana leaves in pyramid shape. The rice is infused with pandan and coconut flavour. However, the sambal (sauce made from chilis, spices and herbs) is very spicy. I had nasi lemak with sambal ikan bilis (anchovies) and it's good. Crispy ikan bilis make a great combination with nasi lemak. This small packet of nasi lemak comes with ikan bilis, sambal and 1/2 hard boiled egg. My partner had nasi lemak with fish but the fish has too many small bones. Overall, this is one of the best nasi lemak bungkus that I had so far. It would be perfect if the sambal is less spicy. I decided to have the same nasi lemak ikan bilis the next day and this time I requested for additional ikan bilis. (Additional RM 1 for extra ikan bilis).  Ali nasi lemak daun pisang in front of  Sri Weld Food Court Sri Weld Food Court Nasi lemak daun pisang (ika

Kanbe Ramen - Kuala Lumpur

Image
Kanbe Ramen is located in 163 Retail Park, Mont Kiara. The restaurant was quite packed when we reached there around 3.30pm on a weekday. We read some online reviews saying that this is one of the best ramen in KL. We decided to check it out together with my partner's cousin. Since three of us still feeling full from lunch, we just ordered two bowls instead of three. Kanbe offers two style of noodles - Tonkotsu Ramen or Tonkotsu Tsukemen. Ramen is a Japanese noodle dish served in a bowl of hot soup while Tsukemen is a Japanese noodle (hot/cold) served with a separate bowl of flavourful thick rich soup for dipping. We were given a piece of Kanbe custom sheet to circle our preference in terms of flavour, soup base, toppings, spicy level, noodle texture and any additional toppings. There's 8 types of flavour to choose from: 1. Shiro - pork bone soup 2. Aka - pork bone soup with spicy fermented bean paste 3. Kuro - jet-black pork bone soup that uses squid ink 4. Kohaku - pork bone s

Eastin Hotel - Penang

Image
Eastin Hotel is within walking distance to Queensbay Mall and just 10 minutes (7km) drive to Penang International Airport. We stayed 1 night in a deluxe room that comes with 2 single beds, working desk, LED TV with very limited Astro channels, in-room safe, mini fridge, complimentary drinking water, snacks and can drinks, open concept wardrobe, iron, ironing board, disposable slippers, free WiFi, hair dryer, toiletries and self controlled air conditioning. Room looks clean but slightly dim for me. Bed is comfy as they added an extra layer of mattress pad for comfort. Shower is separated from the toilet area with its own transparent cubicle. Water pressure is low and shower head spray has been set to power spray mode. We have to stick to this shower spray mode because the shower head is mounted too high and I'm just too short to reach it. Apart from that, there's some poop stains on the toilet bowl. Not to mention the towels were old, no longer fluffy and worn out. Room is very

Spice Market Cafe at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa - Penang

Image
Our stay in  Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa  comes with buffet breakfast for 2 person. Three days in a row we had the same buffet breakfast. Basically they served the same buffet breakfast menu everyday except for the noodles section. The buffet breakfast has a large variety to choose from. There's rice (nasi lemak), roti canai, porridge, hash browns, pancakes, pastries, bread, sausages, bacon, baked beans, egg station, noodles station, fruits, cereals, salad, yogurts and fresh juice. I like their nasi lemak especially the crispy anchovies mixed with sambal. I actually had it three days in a row. Roti canai is good too. The outside layers are crisp and brown, and inside layers are soft and chewy. I'm a big fan of hash browns and it tastes good too. However, I don't really enjoy my fried egg because I prefer my fried egg with crispy bubbly edges. I like the fact that they served rambutan in syrup. They add in cinnamon stick for an extra layer of flavor but for
