Lucy's Kitchen - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Image
Located at 88 Marketplace Kota Kinabalu, Lucy's Kitchen serves Western and Asian food. This is our third time here and I come back for my favourite meal - mee hoon goreng! Simple recipe but taste good. You can either order mee hoon goreng biasa (RM 3.90 comes with sambal, egg sunny side up, fried anchovies, ground nuts and sliced cucumber) or mee hoon goreng special (RM 10.90 serves the same sides as bee hoon goreng biasa except you get the following selection of either curry chicken or chicken rendang or beef rendang or fried chicken) I've tried both curry chicken and chicken rendang. It was good.  Apart from that, the sambal was good too. Not too spicy for me and a perfect combination with the mee hoon goreng. Besides that, I love their crispy anchovies. It reminds me of my home cook mee hoon goreng with anchovies! My partner ordered nasi goreng kampung (spicy Malaysian style fried rice) served with chicken wings, egg sunny side up, sliced cucumber, sambal and fried cr

Kedai Kopi Jia Hua - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

I started eating bread when I was in kindergarten. Everyday I have bread (without fail) during recess period. It's either bread with butter, margarine, peanut butter or home made pork floss. No doubt, all my friends called me "the bread girl". Do I get bored by eating the same stuff everyday? Hmm... not really. I used to eat those white rectangular bread sold by Bengali and we called it roti Bengali. They traveled on their motorcycles fitted with a metal box with variety of snacks and bread. Daily around 3.30pm, the bread man will come with his motorcycle honking around our neighbourhood. We will call out to him by using the simple phrase "roti", "roti"! :) It's been 18 years since I left school and I'm still fond of bread. I've tried this bun at Kedai Kopi Jia Hua in Kota Kinabalu and I really like it. They served either bread or bun with the following combination: a) Cool butter with kaya bun / bread b) Cool butter bun / bread c

Restaurant Nong & Jimmy (Thai Seafood BBQ) - Ampang, Selangor

Image
I was looking through all my old food photos and saw these. Nong & Jimmy, one of my favourite Thai Seafood BBQ restaurant. How time flies! The last time we had Nong & Jimmy was 8 months ago. If you are looking for a pleasant, comfortable and air-conditioned dining environment, this is not the right place for you. The restaurant is covered with zinc roof, cement flooring, simple plastic tables and chairs. However, the queues were really crazy during weekends. Go early before 6.30pm to avoid the crowds. There's no proper seating arrangement. You just have to keep an eye on those customers who are leaving, stand next to the table and wait! My favourite food in this restaurants are prawn cakes, mango salad, fried rice and black pepper style crab. Many customers will order their famous mini "yau char kwai" (golden-brown deep fried dough) served with green homemade kaya and BBQ cockles while waiting for the food to come. Since I'm not a big fan of kaya nor cock

Jibby & Co - Subang Jaya

Three days before Christmas last year we had Jibby & Co for our dinner. Even though it's a bit late, I'm still going to post it here as I really enjoyed the seafood hotspot. We heard the queues were insane during weekends and decided to give it a try on a normal weekday. It was a rainy day and we have no problem finding a seat. My partner ordered soft shell crab burger on Brioche, comes with Asian coleslaw, spicy mayonnaise and sweet potato fries, while I ordered seafood hotspot consist of p rawns, pan fried Atlantic salmon, calamari, clams and butter fish hotpot served with toasted Turkish bread. I love the seafood hotspot. The sauce was really delicious! However, the portion was rather small.  The soft shell crab burger was something new to us. Special dish but it looks like you're eating a spider with the legs sticking out between two slices of brioche. I have never been able to enjoy the soft shell crabs because of the texture. It was like eating shrimp wi

New Paris Restaurant - Petaling Jaya

Whenever I craved for kam heong lala or clams, I will definitely head to New Paris Restaurant. Located nearby SS2 Mall, this restaurant serve good food and the service is crazily fast! Food will be served in less than 10 minutes after you have placed your order. Besides that, cleaning of the table is a breeze too. Each tables are wrapped in many layers of pink plastic bags. Once customer has finished their meal, the workers just need to unwrapped the plastic bags together with the plates and leftover dishes. This may sound good for high customer turnover but I don't think it's an environmentally friendly act. Imagine how many plastic bags are used each day! My favourite dish in this restaurant are kam heong lala or clams, marmite pork and steamed fish in bean paste. Their kam heong lala dish comes with crispy bits of dried shrimp and curry leaves. Spicy level just right for me and their kam heong sauce is superb. Apart from that, their special sauce, combination of chill

Restaurant 99 - Klang

What I love about this Restoran 99 is their curry fish fillet and yellow wine chicken with ginger. Most people will order curry fish head but we preferred fish fillet instead. Delicious curry fish fillet comes with lady's finger, long beans, onions, brinjal, and tau fu pok (deep fried tofu). Fish was fresh and spicy level was just right for me.  Restaurant 99's yellow wine (in cantonese it is called wong chow) chicken with ginger was good too. The yellow wine was not that strong and the whole combination of yellow wine, ginger and soy sauce were perfect. Apart from this, we have also tried their mantis shrimp, taufu with vegetables, yau mak, and sweet potato leaves. Overall the food was ok. Remark: Price shown below before implementation of GST. Restoran 99 Yellow wine chicken - RM 16 Mantis shrimp - RM 21 Curry fish fillet - RM 47 Taufu with vegetables - RM 13 Yau mak - RM 10 Sweet potato leaves - RM 10
