Singapore - Day 6 (Chinatown)

Image
It's our final day here in Singapore. We checked out from  Carlton Hotel Singapore  before 12pm and left our luggage at the concierge. We took a Grab to Chinatown (Cost: $ 6) and had our lunch at this one Michelin star restaurant - Hawker Chan. There's so many people queuing inside the restaurant and getting a place to sit is a nightmare. We ordered and paid for our food using a self service electronic system. Then we waited for our number to be called and collect our food at the pick-up counter. I had s oya sauce chicken noodle with chicken breast while my partner had s oya sauce chicken rice with chicken breast. You need to pay additional  $ 0.50 for chicken breast. Overall I wasn't really impressed with the food. Rice is a bit hard for my liking. Chicken is tender but taste wise it's just okay. The restaurant was so packed during lunch hour that you do not have a proper place to stand and wait for your table! Will I be back again in near future? Most probably not.

Will you queue for hours just for the sake of one bowl of dried pork noodles? That's what we did on our 5th day in Singapore. We took a Grab share (Cost: $ 7) to  Tai Hwa Eating House and my partner stood in a queue for 2 hours just for this bowl of dried pork noodles! What's so special about this  one Michelin star pork noodles? It's commonly known as the best Teochew style "bak chor mee" (minced pork noodles) in Singapore and probably one of the cheapest Michelin starred meal you can get. We ordered a bowl of their signature dried minced pork noodles and a bowl of kueh teow soup. Springy noodles tossed in a vinegar sauce topped with tender pork slices, minced pork, dumplings, crispy fried sole fish and spring onions. Vinegar taste was rather strong and since both of us not into vinegar, we don't really enjoy this bowl of dried minced pork noodles. On the other hand, kueh teow soup noodle's texture is smooth and the soup taste good too. Just that I

Chicken rice is one of my favourite food and a trip to Singapore is not complete without trying their Hainanese chicken rice. So we took MRT from City Hall Station to Tanjung Pagar Station (Cost: $ 0.77) and walked 5 minutes (450m) before we reached Maxwell Food Centre. Both of us ordered a plate of Hainanese chicken rice from Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice stall. It's good. The chicken is tender and juicy. Rice is fragrant and soft. Apart from that, their chili sauce is good too. Best part, they have dark soy sauce to add into my chicken rice and chili which is a "must" for me unless the stall couldn't provide it. However, after our meal I felt so thirsty. So we bought a cup of  Lao Ban soya beancurd  and a glass of ice lemon tea. Lao Ban soya beancurd has a smooth and soft texture with a hint of soya beancurd taste on it. It's slightly sweet but still bearable. One the other hand, ice lemon tea is nice and refreshing. My partner loves chee cheong fun (rice
