The Hunt for Sabah Milky Way 2017 organized by the Sabah Stargazer

I remember back in my primary school days, we need to list down our top three choices of occupations that we want to be when we grow up. My first choice was always to become an astronomer! Whenever I step outside at night, I always look up to see if the stars are out. My parents always keep me informed if there's any meteor showers or any closest comet approach to earth. Back in the days, there's no such thing as Google and we rely solely on newspapers or TV for news. However, never once I saw a meteor shower or shooting stars because it's being drowned out by city lights.  When I grow up, I realized I can only set aside my dream job and turned it to a hobby instead. I've been searching online for any organization or group that share similar interests as me. That's when I stumbled upon Sabah Stargazer on Facebook. They have been organizing events such as Geminids Meteor Shower Viewing Party 2015, Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing Party 2016 and the latest one was T

Simpang Mengayau Cafeteria - Kudat, Sabah

Our stay in Simpang Mengayau Chalet comes with breakfast for 2 adults. Breakfast start from 7am to 9am. However, they only started serving breakfast at 8.30am. Buffet style breakfast but choices are very limited. They only served bread, fried noodles, fried rice, vegetables and free flow of coffee. Food tasted average and fried noodles were slightly too salty for my liking.  The night before we had our dinner at Simpang Mengayau Chalet too. There's 12 of us and we ordered 6 dishes. It's so kind of the restaurant owner to give us complimentary drinks and fruits. Each of us only need to pay RM 25 for our dinner that night. We didn't set any expectation but surprisingly all the food tastes good. We had a good time chit chatting with some of the Sabah Stargazer participants after the dinner and hours fly by without notice... Simpang Mengayau Chalet is just 4 minutes walk from the Tip of Borneo. This is the closest chalet to the Tip of Borneo. There's 3 types of room - family house consist of 2 queen size bed, grouping house / couple room - one house with either 3 rooms or 4 rooms and dorm. We stayed in a couple room consists of 2 single beds, self controlled air-conditioning, TV which is not working (fuzzy channel) and coffee or tea making facilities.  The condition of the room was simple and old with a musty smell. The bed was soft enough to allow you to sink into it. There's no soap and shampoo in the bathroom and we have to request it from the housekeeping. Besides that, drinking water is not provided. Basically, you have to either boil or bring your own drinking water there. Apart from that, toilet does not flush properly. Bathroom comes with cold or hot water and water pressure was great. However, temperature isn't hot enough unless you reduce the water pressure. Our room is facing

Tip of Borneo - Kudat, Sabah

Tip of Borneo, also known as Tanjung Simpang Mengayau is located in the district of Kudat, Sabah - 3 hours and 50 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu International Airport. The tip is the meeting point of the South China Sea and Sulu Sea. It's the 3rd largest island in the world and a great place to take a sunset picture. You are not supposed to go down the cliff but despite a warning sign displayed right in front of the cliff, some curious visitors still climb down the cliff. If you really insist to go down, be careful of the steep slope and beware of the strong winds and violent waves.  On the way up to Tip of Borneo, you'll find Kalampunian beach. Beautiful white sandy beach.  The beach is gaining popularity among surfers for its rolling waves and rough waters. There is no lifeguard in this beach, so swim at your own risk.
