Club Med Cherating - Pahang
We recently spent 4 days and 3 nights at Club Med Cherating with our friends, and overall it was a memorable all-inclusive beach holiday that combined nature, activities, and resort-style convenience. The package cost RM3,888 for 2 people, and included accommodation, meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks), drinks (including free-flow beer and wine), and access to a wide range of sports and activities. Upon check-in, we were each given a wristband that acted as our room key. It needed to be worn throughout the stay as it was used for access around the resort and to unlock our room. Once it was cut or removed, it could not be reused or worn again.
The resort offered a wide variety of activities, including sailing, kayaking, archery, hiking, yoga, tennis, pickleball, padel, table tennis, badminton, squash, pool, and rock climbing, along with Club Med’s signature flying trapeze and circus activities. The spa was also available, although it required additional payment. For water-based activities such as sailing, guests are required to know how to swim, as swimming ability is compulsory for most of these activities. The all-inclusive concept made the stay very convenient since most activities were already included in the package without the need for extra planning or additional costs.
After we had booked our package, our friend later discovered that the same deal was being advertised on the website at a cheaper price, about RM 242 less than what we had paid. He contacted the resort via email, and they agreed to provide a credit redeemable during our stay. However, when we arrived, the information had not been communicated to the reception staff, and they were unaware of the arrangement. This resulted in quite a bit of back-and-forth during the trip. Although our friend eventually managed to receive the RM 242 credit, we did not receive ours at that time. We became quite tired of following up during the stay, so after returning home, my partner emailed them again and we were eventually refunded the RM 242.
Our room was located on the 3rd floor, and there was no lift in that block, so we had to use the stairs throughout our stay. Fortunately, the staff assisted with carrying our luggage to the room, which made both arrival and departure much easier. The room itself felt quite compact and slightly dated, but it was still comfortable enough for a short stay. The bed was comfy, although the pillows were too soft for my preference. Besides that, the room also had a TV with limited channels.
The bathroom was separated into toilet and shower areas, although both were fairly small. The shower had high water pressure, but there was no proper space or shelf to place toiletries inside the shower area, which made it a bit inconvenient. The shower floor also tended to get slippery when wet, so extra care was needed. Disposable slippers were not provided, and toiletries were limited to just a toothbrush.
The room was equipped with two glass bottles of drinking water and coffee or tea-making facilities. One unusual design feature was that the compartment containing the coffee and tea facilities opened directly toward the shower area, making the bathroom layout feel somewhat open and less private than expected.
The toilet cubicle was rather small, and the ventilation was not strong enough, so odours could linger after use. The air-conditioning was basic, with only low, medium, and high settings and no temperature control. At night, the air-conditioning was not cold enough, and we felt quite warm while sleeping. There was also a balcony, but it was not encouraged to keep the door open due to the presence of many monkeys around the resort area.
During our stay, there was no mobile signal within the resort, so we relied entirely on the resort’s WiFi, which was actually good and stable for messaging and even heavier use like streaming and video calls. The resort also had a lively atmosphere in the evenings, with shows, performances, and group activities that made the experience more engaging beyond daytime sports. In summary, Club Med Cherating was a great destination for an all-inclusive holiday filled with activities and surrounded by nature, especially for those who enjoy trying new sports and staying active in a social resort environment.
