Taiwan - Day 1 (Taoyuan)
This is our fourth time to Taiwan. The last time we went there was five years ago. My partner bought a round trip ticket from Kota Kinabalu to Taiwan for RM 1,100 per person via MAS. Our flight departs on time at 5.35pm and it takes approximately 3 hours and 10 minutes to reach Taoyuan International Airport. You only need to fill in the arrival card which will be provided by the airline before boarding the flight. You can also complete an online immigration arrival card on the website of the National Immigration Agency. An email will be sent to you if your online arrival card application is successful.
As usual I always prefer a window seat while my partner prefer the aisle seat. We're lucky because only half of the seats are occupied and we get an entire row of seats for ourselves. Best part is I get to see the beautiful moon rise from the plane. Dinner is served around 7pm and I had chicken with mash potatoes while my partner had prawns with rice.
We reached Taoyuan International Airport around 8.50pm and we bought a limited edition Game of Throne Singleton single malt liquor (NT$ 1,710) for our friend from the duty free liquor shop. There's a long queue at the immigration counter and took us more than 45 minutes to get through. By the time we came out from the airport it's almost 10.10pm. Our friend Alan is already there to pick us up.
He drove us to Dong Feng Motel, gave us 10 minutes to freshen up and brought us to a nearby meat skewer shop for supper. This shop is just 3 minutes walking distance (210m) from Dong Feng Motel. He ordered three types of soup - miso soup with pork, seafood laksa soup and Korean tofu soup. Besides that, he ordered variety of meat skewers including scallop cordon bleu roll, beef, chicken, bacon mochi roll and bacon green pepper.
My favourite is the bacon mochi roll, scallop cordon bleu roll and bacon green pepper. Mochi is soft and chewy, blends perfectly with the savoury bacon. Scallops are fresh and have a soft chewy texture. Apart from that, bacon green pepper is good too. However, I don't really fancy the soup. Korean tofu soup is a bit too spicy for me while both seafood laksa soup and miso soup with pork doesn't have the umami taste. I tried the milk tea as well and it tastes bland. I guess we are used to the high amounts of added sugar in our drink.
The shop closes at 12.30am and we're so full thanks to Alan. After supper, we walked back to our motel. It's almost mid of April and weather is cold at night around 15℃.
