Spice Market Cafe at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa - Penang

Our stay in Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa comes with buffet breakfast for 2 person. Three days in a row we had the same buffet breakfast. Basically they served the same buffet breakfast menu everyday except for the noodles section. The buffet breakfast has a large variety to choose from. There's rice (nasi lemak), roti canai, porridge, hash browns, pancakes, pastries, bread, sausages, bacon, baked beans, egg station, noodles station, fruits, cereals, salad, yogurts and fresh juice.

I like their nasi lemak especially the crispy anchovies mixed with sambal. I actually had it three days in a row. Roti canai is good too. The outside layers are crisp and brown, and inside layers are soft and chewy. I'm a big fan of hash browns and it tastes good too. However, I don't really enjoy my fried egg because I prefer my fried egg with crispy bubbly edges.

I like the fact that they served rambutan in syrup. They add in cinnamon stick for an extra layer of flavor but for me I still prefer the original rambutan in syrup taste. I love the peaches in syrup too. Yogurts on the other hand a bit sweet for my liking. There's fresh juice such as orange and grapefruit, but the taste of grapefruit juice is bitter. Besides that, I love their whole meal bread as the texture is soft and fluffy. The restaurant was so cold that a non coffee drinker like me actually had a cup of hot cappuccino. I might say that cup of cappuccino has good texture. It's creamy and smooth with enough microfoam. Apart from that, the coffee flavour is mild which suits me.

On our 2nd night, we had our dinner at Spice Market Cafe. We ordered chicken tikka (boneless chicken tenders marinated in yogurt, chili, garlic, ginger and blended spices, served with mint dip, basmati rice and papadom), onion naan (filled with onion and coriander - RM 19), fried bee hoon (stir fried rice noodles with green vegetables, BBQ chicken, bean sprouts, prawn and squid with Chef's special sauce) and beef tenderloin. My partner's dad had beef tenderloin which is good. It's tender and juicy. The dish comes with wilted spinach, mash potato and beef jus. I had the chicken tikka but it's lack of flavour and seasoning. My partner on the other hand had fried bee hoon which is nice.
