Kanbe Ramen - Kuala Lumpur

Kanbe Ramen is located in 163 Retail Park, Mont Kiara. The restaurant was quite packed when we reached there around 3.30pm on a weekday. We read some online reviews saying that this is one of the best ramen in KL. We decided to check it out together with my partner's cousin. Since three of us still feeling full from lunch, we just ordered two bowls instead of three.

Kanbe offers two style of noodles - Tonkotsu Ramen or Tonkotsu Tsukemen. Ramen is a Japanese noodle dish served in a bowl of hot soup while Tsukemen is a Japanese noodle (hot/cold) served with a separate bowl of flavourful thick rich soup for dipping. We were given a piece of Kanbe custom sheet to circle our preference in terms of flavour, soup base, toppings, spicy level, noodle texture and any additional toppings.

There's 8 types of flavour to choose from:
1. Shiro - pork bone soup
2. Aka - pork bone soup with spicy fermented bean paste
3. Kuro - jet-black pork bone soup that uses squid ink
4. Kohaku - pork bone soup with dried bonito, dried mackerel and dried sardines
5. Sakura - pork bone soup with ebi prawn
6. Yuzu - pork bone soup with Japanese Yuzu
7. Goma - pork bone soup with sesame sauce
8. Seasonal - based on seasonal ingredients

I chose Kanbe Tonkotsu Ramen (shiro flavour) with normal soup base topped with chashu, green negi and black fungus. There's 5 levels of spiciness for you to choose from and I decided to go with mild. In terms of noodle firmness I prefer it to be on the softer side. Whereas for Tonkotsu Tsukemen, his cousin decided to try their goma flavour with normal soup base topped with chashu, green negi and black fungus. She chose mild spicy level as well but with normal noodle firmness.

Shiro soup is rich and flavourful. The soft noodle texture is just perfect for me. Tsukemen soup on the other hand appeared gooey and thick. The dipping soup is very flavourful but noodle texture is a bit hard for my liking. Tsukemen uses thick noodles so the gooey and thick soup can easily stick to them. Overall we enjoyed it very much. We will definitely be back again to try the other soup flavours.
