Royale Chulan - Penang

Royale Chulan Hotel is located in George Town Penang. My partner stayed here once some years ago and decided to bring me here this time. We stayed 2 nights in a superior room that comes with a king size bed, working desk, TV with limited Astro channels, complimentary drinking water, coffee or tea making facilities, in-room safe, iron, ironing board, disposable slippers, hair dryer, mini fridge, self controlled air conditioning and toiletries.

Room is very spacious. In fact they have this walk in wardrobe concept. However, room looks old and same goes for the bathroom design. Bed is comfy but there's black stains everywhere on the bedsheet and comforter is quite thin. Apart from that, their pillow is covered in yellow and brown stains that gross me out! I requested housekeeping to change the bedsheet the next day but the new bedsheet still comes with black stains and same goes for the pillow.

Toilet is separated from the shower area but water still leaks out from the shower cubicle that makes the bathroom all wet. Glad that shower pressure is good and water is hot enough. There's a towel bar right in front of the sink that stick out too far and makes you hunched over the sink. Besides that, their facial mirror is mounted too high and I need to crane my neck just to get a better view of my face.

There's no stirring spoon as they only provide disposable stirring sticks. We called up the hotel reception to request for spoons but they told us their cafe already closed at 9.30pm. We ordered a packet of nasi kandar via Grab for supper and ended up we have to eat with our hands.

Hotel facilities include swimming pool and gym. Key card is not required for hotel lifts. At midnight, I can still hear faint beat of disco dance tunes from out hotel room. I guess there's some pub or club nearby the hotel.
