Kuantan, Pahang - Food Hunting Trip (Day III)

Food Hunting trip - 3rd day in Kuantan, Pahang. We went to this Restoran Hoi Yin again to try out the curry mee since it was sold out yesterday. This time we reached there before 11am. All the tables were occupied and it was not even lunch time! To my surprise, majority of the customers were malays. Even one of the malay hotel staff told us that this restaurant is her regular hang out place.

I ordered curry hor fun without bean sprouts. Yes! No bean sprouts please. I do not know why but I am not so keen on bean sprouts or taugeh in chinese. The curry hor fun came with cockles, steamed chicken slices, fish balls, slices of fish cakes, tofu puffs and foo chok. Just love the combination of hor fun with the curry. The hor fun was smooth (but not as smooth as Ipoh hor fun) and the steam chicken was tender and juicy. Love the fish balls and slices of fish cakes too. I am not a cockles lover but I kinda like the cockles here. It was clean, fresh and was perfectly cooked. If you would like to try this curry hor fun, make sure you come before 12pm as the curry and hor fun sold off quite fast.

One of my friend recommended me to try this duck noodles nearby the Pasar Besar Kuantan. The stall is situated outside the Pasar Besar Kuantan and only opens from 1pm onwards. You will see alot of stall selling food and drinks. The seats are quite limited. Most probably you will need to share table with others. We ordered 1 plate of duck noodles. Normally I don't eat duck or lamb due to the gamey taste. Surprisingly the duck was good and there was no gamey taste. However, I find the noodles abit hard and too much of dark soy sauce.

Heard that Mok Naa is one of the biggest kuih outlets in town. We decided to give it a try. It was indeed a huge variety of kuih, satak, pisang goreng, sotong goreng, ikan goreng, udang goreng, keropok lekor and many more. We ordered the sotong goreng (RM5), ikan goreng (RM4.50), udang goreng (RM3.50), coconut jelly (RM1.30), pisang goreng and keropok lekor.

The pisang goreng was very crispy but the banana doesn't taste sweet at all. The keropok lekor was crunchy on the outside but I find it abit too soft for me on the inside. The coconut jelly was refreshing but the jelly was too soft. So far the best coconut jelly that I had was in Jitra, Kedah. Overall the sotong, ikan and udang goreng was fresh.

We had another round of dessert at Cendol Air Putih. This time we ordered ABC, perfect dessert for a hot and sunny day. The ABC was yummy and the sugar level was just nice.

Restoran Lin Chi Kang is located nearby Francis Western Food. Look for a stall named Chia Kee selling yong tau foo. They have variety of yong tau foo such as fish balls, fish cakes, stuff fish paste in lady fingers, chili, fried bean curd and many more. Each yong tau foo cost around RM0.50 - RM0.60 per piece. They have either curry or soup noodles. The curry was abit spicy and the taste was different compared to other curry noodles that I had before. Overall the food was ok. I personally preferred the soup noodles than the curry noodles.
