Tawau/Semporna - Day 5 (Mataking Reef Resort)
I wonder why it always rains when we went to the island. We had our breakfast around 8.40am and luckily the resorts do provide an umbrella in the room. Their garlic fried rice is good. Besides that, I like their porridge with crispy anchovies and fried egg. Surprisingly my partner like their bruschetta which I find it so-so only. We had their Apam balik or peanut pancake but it's a bit too sweet for my liking.
After breakfast, we decided to explore Mataking Kecil. It's low tide in the morning and we can see the narrow sandbank that connects between Mataking Island and Mataking Kecil. It takes around 15 minutes walk to reach Mataking Kecil. The water is crystal clear and it reminds me of Rottnest Island. However, there's rubbish everywhere on Mataking Kecil. The small island wasn't well kept and maintain. While walking back to Mataking Island we bumped into the same white dog that I saw yesterday. He's such a well-behaved and happy dog. I wish I knew that canine's name.
We had our lunch at 12pm. They served soy sauce fish, stir fried cabbage, sambal tempeh, Thai pineapple prawns, beef rendang and stir fried green mustard. Lunch is good. Roti pratha is crispy and their bubur cha cha dessert is nice. My partner as usual loves their beef and fish. After lunch, I walked around the resort while my partner went for head, shoulder and foot massage at Jamu Spa. Initially I wanted to walked around the island by myself but halfway through I saw tide coming in and decided to turn back. Then I spotted the white dog again but this time instead of being friendly, the dog started to bark at me. That's when I realized it's not the same dog that I saw this morning and the day before. I guess they're siblings as they look very alike. Later I found out that there's three white dogs in the island kept by the army camp.
My partner went for another round of snorkeling before dinner. Me as usual trying to capture the beauty of nature. It's BBQ night for dinner but food is just normal for me. After dinner we just chill around the restaurant enjoying the cool sea breeze...
