Roots Desserts Bar - Penang

Roots Desserts Bar is famous for their watermelon cake and it's just 6 minutes (2.1km) drive from Courtyard by Marriott, Penang. The night before we called up the shop around 9.30pm asking whether their watermelon cake is still available. Their staff said yes but when we reached there 15 minutes later, it's already sold out! We decided to go again the next day and this time we went immediately after lunch.

They do not have any cake display fridge. So basically you just have to place your order based on their menu card. I think a cake display fridge is important to showcase to their customers what they have to offer. Their service was rather slow as they took quite some time to pack my watermelon cake. Their watermelon cake comes with almond dacquoise, watermelon, rose-scented cream topped with strawberries, edible dried rose petals and pistachios. The taste is good but the watermelon is rather thick for me. I can hardly taste the almond dacquoise. I guess the best watermelon cake for me is still from Black Star Pastry, Australia.

Our stay in  Kinabalu Pine Resort  comes with breakfast for 2 adults. Breakfast start from 7am to 10am. They only serve ala-carte breakfast and you need to pre-book it at The Pines Restaurant latest by 9.30pm for your next day's breakfast. There's Malay, Chinese, Western or kids breakfast set. Apart from that, there's free flow of Tenom coffee, Sabah tea, mango and orange juice. Hounon Ridge Farmstay & Camping - Kundasang, Sabah

Hounon Ridge Farmstay is located at Kampung Himbaan Bundu Tuhan, 36 minutes drive from Kundasang town. The road heading to Bundu Tuhan is very steep and narrow. There's no street light and driving at night can be hazardous if you are not familiar with the road condition. Be particularly alert when driving and watch out for cows, chickens and stray dogs on the side of the road. There's 4 types of room available. If you are the adventurous type and not afraid of cold, you can even camp outside Hounon Ridge Farmstay.
