Bao Teck Tea House - Penang

Our supplier recommended us to try this premium dim sum located at George Town, Penang. Reservations are recommended to avoid the long queues. When we reached there around 11am, the restaurant was packed with people. We looked at the menu and indeed the food and drinks are more expensive than norm. There's four of us and we ordered 13 types of dim sum. Our bill came up to RM 272.15. Thanks Jon for buying us brunch.

We ordered snow mountain bun (BBQ roasted pork bun), Bao Teck prawn dumpling, Bao Teck siu mai, homemade fish balls, crispy yam puff, steamed pork sparerib with cordyceps, glutinous rice with chicken, crispy money bag with prawns, prawn rolls with bean curd skin, pandan coconut bun, prawn dumpling noodle soup, golden radish cake and meatball with hotate.

I like their pandan coconut bun. Soft and fluffy bun with aromatic pandan coconut filling. It's not too sweet with a hint of salt. Snow mountain bun with BBQ roasted pork filling is good too. Slightly crusty on the outside but soft with flavourful BBQ pork on the inside. Apart from that, I like their prawn dumpling and siu mai as well. Prawn dumpling is filled with fresh shrimp finely dice, wrapped with dumpling skin. Whereas for siu mai it's filled with finely diced pork, wrapped with dumpling skin and topped with tobiko.

Their steamed glutinous rice with chicken or also known as "Lo Mai Gai" in Chinese is delicious too. It's topped with Chinese sausage, tender chicken drumstick, shiitake mushrooms and dry scallop served with tangy and rich sambal sauce. Chicken drumstick is well marinated and very flavourful. Glutinous rice on the other hand is soft and sticky. Those who like radish cake should order their golden radish cake with dried shrimp. Crispy on the outside but soft and moist on the inside. "Wu Kok" or crispy yam puff is good too. Lightly crisp on the surface, creamy underneath with moist meat filling. Overall we are very pleased with out brunch.
