Kedai Kopi Chung Wah (Chicken rice ball) - Malacca
We went to this Kedai Kopi Chung Wah as early as 9am on a Friday morning, 15 minutes walking distance from Fenix Inn Melaka. The restaurant was quite empty when we stepped in since it was a working day. During weekends or public holidays the queues were crazy. We can see people queuing under the hot sun just to taste this chicken rice.
We ordered just a small portion of the chicken rice ball and steam chicken as we wanted to try other food in Jonker Street. The difference between the normal chicken rice and the chicken rice ball in Malacca is just the steam chicken rice is shaped into golf ball sized rather than the rice served on a plate. Both the chicken rice are served with steam chicken and cucumber. I remembered the first time I saw the chicken rice ball from far I thought it was a fishball!
The chicken rice ball was soft, very delicious and flavourful. Basically I can just eat the chicken rice ball without any side dishes. The steam chicken was served with cucumber slices. I love the cucumber mixed with the sauce from the steam chicken but the serving wasn't that generous. I only found few slices of cucumber in the entire dish. The steam chicken was smooth and juicy but wasn't tender. The chili sauce was ok. It would be better if they have dark soy sauce. I love mixing the chili sauce with dark soy sauce and dip the steam chicken into it.
Overall the food was ok but the service provided by the staff wasn't that pleasant. So if you ask me whether I will queue for this chicken rice ball, well... most probably not.
