Mercure Sapporo - Hokkaido

Mercure Sapporo is located in the heart of Sapporo's Susukino entertainment district, within walking distance of convenience stores, restaurants and pubs. This hotel also serves as a pickup and drop-off point for those traveling to Niseko via the Niseko Ski Resort shuttle bus. The hotel reception is on the third floor, and for security reasons, you cannot access your room straight from the first floor. Instead, you must take the lift to the third floor and use your room key card to activate the card reader to gain access to your room floor. The hotel entrance is locked from 1am to 5am. When unlocking, you have to place your room key card on the sensor.

The check-in process is fast and efficient. They will also require our passports for registration. We stayed two nights in a standard twin room that comes with a twin bed, a 43-inch smart TV with limited channels (but you can log in to Netflix or YouTube), a working desk, a mini fridge, two cans of complimentary drinking water, an in-room safe, two pairs of disposable slippers, fabric freshener spray, a shoehorn, a shoe brush, a shoe mitt, a hairdryer, two pairs of yukata, complimentary Wi-Fi, a smart toilet with a heated seat and a humidifier. The hotel's air conditioning is currently set to cool via a centrally managed HVAC system and it is recommended that we turn off the air conditioning in our room. I'm glad that the room isn't too warm and the temperature is just right. If it gets too warm, you can open the window to let in some fresh air.

The room has a modern and clean appearance. However, it is smaller compared to the New Otani Inn. The beds are comfortable and have one pillow each. We requested two additional pillows, which they gladly delivered without question. I loved how the hotel provided fabric refresher spray. It is a quick and effective way to freshen up, especially after a smoky dinner.

The bathroom comes with a bathtub and it's clean. However, water pressure in the basin is low. Luckily, the shower pressure is normal and the water is hot enough. The water from the tap is safe to drink. Alternatively, you can take water from the gym, which is located on the fourth floor. The fitness gym is open from 6am to 11pm daily with a usage limit of 1 hour per guest. There's a smoking lounge on the fourth floor as well. Hotel facilities include self-service laundry, which is available on the 6th, 9th and 12th floors. They are available to use between 6am to 11pm. Please be aware that once the machine starts operating, it cannot be paused until the cycle is complete.
