Sandakan - Day 7 (Sandakan Town)

It's our last day here in Sandakan and before we checked out from Livingston Hotel, we took a Grab ride to Sim Sim Water Village. The water village is just 11 minutes drive (6.8km) from Livingston Hotel. (Grab fare - RM 6). The Grab driver dropped us at Lorong H. We walked until the end, turned right and walked further up. Sim Sim 84 is on the left. It's a wooden house painted in green. This place is famous for its springy noodle and century egg dumplings. We ordered one bowl of springy noodle with fried pork and century egg dumplings. Their noodle texture is a bit hard for my liking but the century egg dumpling is nice. Fried pork tasted normal for me. My partner ordered "teh ping" (iced milk tea) which is slightly sweet but taste wise is okay.

Total bill - RM 9.50

Since it's still too early to go back to our hotel, we decided to take a Grab ride to Sandakan Central Market which is 11 minutes drive (2.9km) from Sim Sim Water Village. (Grab fare - RM 4) We strolled through the market. There's food court on first and second floor but sadly it's quite empty.

Kedai Kopi Fui Chiew is famous for their fried pork kueh teow and we were curious to find out how good it is. So we took a Grab ride from Sandakan Central Market to Kedai Kopi Fui Chiew - 14 minutes drive (4.9km). (Grab fare - RM 6) We ordered one bowl of fried pork kueh teow soup, one small plate of pork ribs black bean sauce and kit chai ping (sour plum juice). Their pork ribs black bean sauce is flavourful and nice. As taste is very subjective, we find their fried pork kueh teow soup so so only. Kueh teow texture is soft but not silky smooth. Kit chai ping on the other hand has always been a refreshing drink. You can never go wrong with ordering a glass of kit chai ping.

Total bill - RM 13

We took a Grab ride back to Livingston Hotel from Kedai Kopi Fui Chiew - 16 minutes drive (9.8km) (Grab fare - RM 9) and checked out at 1pm. We decided to have our lunch at Restaurant Ocean King Seafood before we went to the airport. Restaurant Ocean King Seafood is approximately 15 minutes drive (6.3km) from Livingston Hotel. (Grab fare - RM 6)

We were here two days ago for dinner and since both of us love their seafood so much we decided to have it again. We ordered steamed grouper fish (same dish that we ordered that day for dinner), tiger prawns in creamy butter sauce and stir fried baby kailan with salted fish. Both fish and tiger prawns are fresh. However, tiger prawn's texture is slightly tough might due to overcooking. We're their last customer before they close for break time at 2.30pm.

We took a Grab ride to the Airport - 14 minutes drive (4.8km) from Restaurant Ocean King Seafood. (Grab fare - RM 5). We reached early at the airport around 2.45pm and waited at the departure hall. Then, I spotted Karamell Almondo and decided to grab one cup of soft serve ice cream topped with almond flakes. However, their almond flakes smell like rancid oil and the soft serve ice cream it's creamy enough.

Our flight back to Kota Kinabalu (actual departure time - 6.45pm) was delayed and finally we departed at 8.15pm. It's a 45 minutes flight journey and finally we reached Kota Kinabalu Airport at 9pm. All the airport's restaurants such as KFC and McD were closed. So we have no choice but to take a Grab ride to Imago Shopping Mall and had our dinner there before we went back home. That ends our 7 days Sandakan - Lankayan trip. Next post will be our Tawau - Semporna trip. So stay tuned...
