Sandakan - Day 3 (Lankayan Island Dive Resort)
Day 2 in Lankayan is all about rejuvenate your body, mind and soul. Breakfast starts from 6.20am to 10.30am and we had our breakfast at 8.30am. Breakfast is served in the Resort's main building. They only served fried bee hoon, hash browns, sausages, garlic bread, porridge and fruits. There's a cereal, bread and egg station. Fried bee hoon looked innocent but it's nice. However, their fried egg was one of the worst that I have ever had in a resort / hotel breakfast. Perfect fried egg should have a crispy and delicate edges around the egg white. Mine looked bland and unappetizing.
After breakfast I walked around the island and saw a sea turtle and squid swimming in the crystal clear water. Basically there's nothing much you can do in this island except swimming, snorkeling or ocean kayaking. Since both of us are not divers, we just hang around the island. Internet access only available at the Resort's main building but sometimes connection can be very poor. I'm using U Mobile (one of the mobile network in Malaysia) and it's totally out of service in this island. My partner who is using Maxis mobile network was having a very poor connection. The resort have this Connect me now - Malaysia's first Prepaid Satellite broadband hotspot service but sadly they ran out of top up card.
Lunch starts from 12.30pm to 2pm. They served curry chicken, fish paprik, vegetables, fish soup, fruits and dessert. Lunch was okay. I like the fact that the resort was quite empty and there's less than 20 guests in the resort. It's so peaceful and quiet. After lunch, my partner went for snorkeling near the jetty. The water was perfectly clear that you can see the corals from the jetty. I even spotted a big jelly fish swimming freely in the crystal clear water.
We had our tea break at 4pm and this time they served twisted donuts. We waited for the sunset until 6.30pm but too bad the weather was a bit cloudy that day. There's no baby turtle release that day and the night before there's only 2 sea turtle nesting that came after midnight.
Dinner starts from 7pm to 8.30pm. They served roast lamb with bbq sauce, sambal prawns, mashed potato, vegetables, carrot soup, fruits and dessert. I'm not a big fan of lamb as it has a unique gamey flavour. Apart from that I'm not keen on bbq sauce as well. Surprisingly their roasted lamb was tender without any gamey taste.
Glad that the sky cleared up after dinner and I managed to shot some Milky Way photos. The best time to take Milky Way photos is between March to October. At the beginning of the Milky Way season, the core only visible in the pre-dawn hours just before sunrise. The longest visibility of the core would be in June and July. So it's a perfect timing for me as I do not need to stay up whole night just to wait for the Milky Way to rise.
