Singapore - Day 5 (Clarke Quay - Fort Canning Park - Chijmes)

Will you queue for hours just for the sake of one bowl of dried pork noodles? That's what we did on our 5th day in Singapore. We took a Grab share (Cost: $ 7) to Tai Hwa Eating House and my partner stood in a queue for 2 hours just for this bowl of dried pork noodles! What's so special about this  one Michelin star pork noodles? It's commonly known as the best Teochew style "bak chor mee" (minced pork noodles) in Singapore and probably one of the cheapest Michelin starred meal you can get.

We ordered a bowl of their signature dried minced pork noodles and a bowl of kueh teow soup. Springy noodles tossed in a vinegar sauce topped with tender pork slices, minced pork, dumplings, crispy fried sole fish and spring onions. Vinegar taste was rather strong and since both of us not into vinegar, we don't really enjoy this bowl of dried minced pork noodles. On the other hand, kueh teow soup noodle's texture is smooth and the soup taste good too. Just that I get rather thirsty after the meal. Will I be back again and queue for another 2 hours just for this bowl of dried pork noodles? Well... most probably not...

After our lunch, we took Grab share (Cost: $ 7) back to Carlton Hotel Singapore. Since we paid so much for the hotel and yet to really enjoy their facilities, we decided to spend the entire afternoon doing nothing but to chill in the hotel.

We plan to have our dinner at Jumbo Seafood located in Clarke Quay. This seafood restaurant is famous for its live seafood. So, we took Grab share (Cost: $ 7) to Clarke Quay and along the way, our Grab driver picked up another passenger since we use the Grab share options. The Grab driver dropped us first at Clarke Quay and we walked our way to Jumbo Seafood restaurant. The restaurant was full of people but we were lucky to get a table without queuing.

We ordered their signature chili crab (we chose mud crab), beef fillet with black pepper sauce and cod fish wok fried with Chef's special spicy sauce. My favourite dish of the night is the chili crab. Crab is fresh in a perfect bland of sweet, savoury and spicy sauce. Cod fish is good too. Crispy on the outside while moist and tender within. Love the Chef's special spicy sauce too. Beef on the other hand is tender and juicy. The fillet is mixed with ground black pepper and seasoning served with caramelized onions. Overall it was a satisfying meal.

(Total bill: $ 154.40 including 10% service charge, 7% GST and 2 bowls of steamed rice, $ 1.20 each)

After a heavy dinner, we strolled along Riverside Point and Clarke Quay before we made our way back hotel on foot. There's street performance at Clarke Quay and the area there was very happening on a Saturday night. Journey back to Carlton Hotel Singapore via foot took us approximately 13 minutes (1km) from Clarke Quay. We passed by Fort Canning Park, Civil Defence Heritage Gallery and lastly we hang around at Chijmes before getting a dessert at McD.
