Singapore - Day 3 (Universal Studio)

On our 3rd day in Singapore we decided to spend the entire day in Universal Studio! I woke up as early as 7am, waited for my "boss" to wake up and get ready before we had our breakfast at Toast Box. Toast Box is located inside Chijmes, just opposite Carlton Hotel Singapore. My partner ordered a set of traditional kaya toast comes with 2 half-boiled eggs and a cup of  regular coffee / tea while I ordered traditional multigrain toast with peanut butter. The toasts were good. It has a crispy texture on the outside. Perfect half-boiled egg and milk tea was good too.

After we had our breakfast, we walked over to City Hall MRT Station, just 4 minutes walking distance (350m) from Carlton Hotel Singapore. We took MRT from City Hall Station to Outram Park Station, switch to North East Line and stopped at HarbourFront Station (Cost: $ 1.07). This station is directly connected to VivoCity shopping mall. We went up to level 3 and took the Sentosa Express monorail from Sentosa Station to Waterfront Station (Cost: $ 4 for a return ticket)

We reached Universal Studio Singapore around 10.30am and bought the entrance ticket online through www.klook.com (RM 205 per person). We were there on a Thursday morning (20th Dec 2018) and park hours starts from 10am to 9pm. (closing time may vary throughout the year) There's seven themed zoned. So make sure you get a copy of the guide map at the entrance to plan your route accordingly.

7 themed zoned for you to explore:

1) Madagascar
2) Far Far Away
3) The Lost World
4) Ancient Egypt
5) Sci-Fi City
6) New York
7) Hollywood

There's 3 attractions in Madagascar:

1) Madagascar A Crate Adventure (river boat ride)
2) King Julien's Beach Party-Go-Round (carousel)
3) King Julien's Tropical Christmas Party (street entertainment) - 12.30pm, 2.30pm & 4.30pm

The first ride that we took was the Madagascar A Crate Adventure (river boat ride) followed by King Julien's Beach Party-Go-Round (carousel). Both rides are suitable for small kids and we felt so childish after the ride! We missed out King Julien's Tropical Christmas Party street entertainment as we were busy queuing for other rides.

There's 6 attraction in Far Far Away:

1) Enchanted Airways (junior roller coaster)
2) Shrek 4D Adventure (4D film)
3) Donkey Live (stage show) - 12pm to 8pm (one show every hour)
4) Puss in Boots' Giant Journey (roller coaster)
5) Magic Potion Spin (for the little visitors)
6) Dance for the Magic Christmas Beans (street entertainment) - 1.40pm, 3.40pm & 5.40pm

Out of the 6 attraction in Far Far Away, we only managed to go for Shrek 4D Adventure and Donkey Live show. Shrek 4D Adventure is nice. You can actually feel the action right from your seat. Watch out for light splashes of water and other fun surprises. However, Donkey Live was a bit boring for me. It's an interactive "live" show which is more suitable for young kids.

We had our lunch at Discovery Food Court and both of us had roasted chicken rice. Chicken is juicy and tender but the rice is a little hard for my liking. We only bought one cup of drink but you can recycle the cup and refill it at the drink counter for $ 3.

There's 5 attraction in The Lost World:

1) Water World (stunt show) - 12pm, 2.45pm & 5.30pm (please arrive 15 mins before scheduled show times)
2) Canopy Flyer (junior roller coaster)
3) Dino-Soarin (children ride)
4) Amber Rock Climb
5) Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure (thrilling river raft ride)

The only ride that we took in The Lost World was the Canopy Flyer roller coaster and it was really fun. You get to enjoy the bird eye view of the park and at the same time having your legs dangling in mid air. We didn't go for the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure because I didn't want to get myself soaked. We went for the Water World stunt show at 2.45pm and it was awesome. Live water show with death-defying stunts and explosions. Right after the show, we bought a cup of mango slush from Pharaoh's Dessert Oasis and it's really nice and refreshing.

There's only 2 attraction in Ancient Egypt:

1) Treasure Hunter (children ride)
2) Revenge of the Mummy (indoor roller coaster)

Treasure Hunter is more to children ride whereas Revenge of the Mummy is an indoor roller coaster ride. We took both the rides. Even though I'm not a big fan of roller coaster, somehow it feels good to get an adrenaline rush while screaming away in the dark. You can keep your belongings inside a locker (free of charge) located just beside the indoor roller coaster ride.

There's 4 attraction in Sci-Fi City:

1) Battlestar Galactica Human (red track)
2) Battlestar Galactica Cylon (grey track)
3) Accelerator (spinning ride)
4) Transformers The Ride (3D ride)

We only took 2 rides - Accelerator and Transformers the Ride as we dare not ride the Battlestar Galactica Human vs Cylon. Transformer the Ride was one of the best rides that I had in Universal Studio Singapore. No wonder the queue was crazy but it's worth the queue. If you enjoy spinning and won't get dizzy, you can check out the Accelerator ride. It spins and whirl you round and round like the little tea cup ride.

There's 6 attraction in New York:

1) Lights Camera Action hosted by Steven Spielberg
2) Street Spaghetti Space Chase
3) Rhythm truck (street entertainment) - 2.35pm & 3.45pm
4) A Christmas Date with Marilyn - 11.45am, 2.45pm & 5.45pm
5) Betty Boop Step into Christmas - 1.45pm & 4.45pm
6) Santa's Christmas Light Up Party (stage entertainment) - 8pm

We enjoyed the Light Camera Action hosted by Steven Spielberg very much. We were blown away by the incredible special effect setting for a category 5 major hurricane that was about to hit New York City. Besides that, we managed to catch the rhythm truck street entertainment right before they ends at 4.10pm.

There's 4 attraction in Hollywood:

1) Oscar's Grouchmas (stage show) - 12.30pm, 2.30pm & 4.30pm
2) Turntables (street entertainment) - 1.15pm, 3.30pm & 5.30pm
3) Elf Town Presentation Day (stage entertainment) - 5pm, 7pm & 8.30pm
4) Hollywood walk of fame - 11am to 6pm

Sorry to say that Oscar's Grouchmas stage show was kinda boring for me. Maybe because I'm not a big fan of sesame street character as I grew up watching Disney cartoons.

We had our dinner at Oasis Spice Cafe. I had butter chicken Biryani comes with Biryani rice, boneless butter chicken and aloo palak (potatoes in smooth spinach sauce) while my partner had roasted chicken Biryani comes with Biryani rice, roasted chicken, chana (chick pea) and dal tadka. Both of us enjoyed our dinner very much.

There's no fireworks display that night but there's Santa's snowy sleigh ride Christmas Parade starts from Sci-Fi and ends at New York. We waited patiently for the Parade to start at 7.45pm but it was delayed to 8pm. After the Parade ends, we left Universal Studio and went to check out the Casino at Resort World Sentosa. You are required to show your passport before entering the casino.

We left Sentosa Island around 9.30pm and took the Sentosa Express monorail from Waterfront Station to Sentosa Station. It was a tiring day and before we took the MRT back to our hotel, we decided to sit and chill in front of the Christmas tree at VivoCity. We bought a piece of freshly baked chocolate financier from Henri Charpentier but it turned out to be so-so for me. After chilling for half an hour at VivoCity we decided to head back to our hotel and via MRT (cost: $ 1.07).

Note: $ 1 = RM 3.055
