Singapore - Day 4 (Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum - Chinatown - Gardens By The Bay)

Chicken rice is one of my favourite food and a trip to Singapore is not complete without trying their Hainanese chicken rice. So we took MRT from City Hall Station to Tanjung Pagar Station (Cost: $ 0.77) and walked 5 minutes (450m) before we reached Maxwell Food Centre. Both of us ordered a plate of Hainanese chicken rice from Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice stall. It's good. The chicken is tender and juicy. Rice is fragrant and soft. Apart from that, their chili sauce is good too. Best part, they have dark soy sauce to add into my chicken rice and chili which is a "must" for me unless the stall couldn't provide it.

However, after our meal I felt so thirsty. So we bought a cup of Lao Ban soya beancurd and a glass of ice lemon tea. Lao Ban soya beancurd has a smooth and soft texture with a hint of soya beancurd taste on it. It's slightly sweet but still bearable. One the other hand, ice lemon tea is nice and refreshing. My partner loves chee cheong fun (rice noodle role) so he ordered a plate from a nearby stall. It's served with a shrimp paste called "hae ko" in Hokkien. Chee cheong fun is smooth but too bad the shrimp paste isn't flavourful enough. Else it'll be the perfect combination.

We spend an hour in Chinatown before we proceed to our next places of interest - Garden By The Bay. In order for us to get there from Chinatown, we walked to Chinatown MRT Station and took the North East Line to Dhoby Ghaut Station. Then we switch to North South Line and took the MRT to Marina Bay Station (Cost: $ 0.77). Red Dot Design Museum is approximately 5 minutes (350m) walking distance from Marina Bay Station.

We purchased Gardens By The Bay entrance ticket online via www.klook.com (RM 95 per person) and the ticket collection is at Red Dot Design Museum. Our ticket includes entrance to Red Dot Design Museum, OCBC Skyway, Flower Dome, Cloud Forest and Christmas Wonderland. We decided to enter the Red Dot Design Museum first since we're there. Basically, there's nothing much to see inside the museum. It took us less than 15 minutes to tour the museum.

We had our late lunch at Bread Street Kitchen located inside The Shoppes. They have this set lunch of 2 courses for the price of $ 40 or 3 courses for the price of $ 48. We decided to share a 3 courses lunch. You get to choose your starters, mains and dessert. We started off with duck as our starters followed by pork belly and ended with coconut and pandan tart. I didn't really enjoy the starters because the duck was cold and I felt like eating a chunk of cold luncheon meat. Pork belly on the other hand had a strong "porky" taste and presentation wise doesn't look too appetizing. If given a choice, we prefer more gravy on it. I love dessert but our coconut and pandan tart was too sweet for my liking. Sorry to say that overall we didn't really enjoy our meal but I love their complimentary bread and breadsticks.

Starters:
1) Smoked tomato soup, creme fraiche, basil oil, croutons
2) BSK fish cake, Gribiche sauce, watercress salad
3) Duck - pork terrine, pistachio, piccalilli, toasted sourdough
4) Roasted squash salad, blue cheese, walnuts, pomegranate, rocket, sherry honey dressing

Mains:
1) Mixed mushroom risotto, Parmesan cheese
2) Slow cooked pork belly, black pepper glaze, whole grain mustard mash, caramelized apple
3) Pan fried seabass, root vegetables minestrone, basil pesto
4) Turkey Cordon bleu, cranberry ketchup, chips

Dessert:
1) Coconut and Pandan tart, soft served pineapple ice cream
2) Earl grey creme brulee, chocolate short bread
3) Soft serve ice cream (ask server for flavour of the day)

We head over to Gardens By The Bay, Flower Dome, Cloud Forest and OCBC Skyway after our late lunch. We waited for the spectacular light and sound show at 7.45pm and we were lucky to be on the OCBC Skyway walk when they display the show. After the show, we had our dinner at Hill Street Coffee Shop. We shared a plate of fried hokkien mee and it's good. Love the mango sago too. Not too sweet and very refreshing. We hang around Gardens By The Bay and decided to wait for another round of light and sound show at 8.45pm before heading back to our hotel.

We were tempted to try out the food in this restaurant called Black Tap since we saw a huge crowd queuing for a table even though it's almost 9.30pm. Finally we got a table after queuing for almost 30 minutes. We ordered All American Burger comes with prime burger, lettuce, tomato, pickles, American cheese and special sauce. All burgers served with french fries / substitute onion rings, sweet potato fries, house salad or any side for $ 3. So instead of french fries we go for Caesar salad. The burger is good. Perfectly juicy yet cooked thoroughly. Caesar salad is fresh and crisp. No doubt the queue is crazy even after dinner time. Sad to say that something went wrong with my camera hence the picture of All American Burger went missing. :(

Sides to choose from:
1) Caesar salad - shaved Parmesan, croutons
2) House salad - lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pickled onions, house vinaigrette
3) Greek salad - tomato, cucumber, olives, feta, lemon
4) Teriyaki broccoli - ginger, garlic, sesame, scallion
5) Buttermilk coleslaw - kosher dill pickle
6) Agurula salad - roasted tomatoes, shaved Parmesan

After our late night snack (feeling happy and satisfied), we decided to call it a day and took the MRT from Marina Bay Station back to City Hall Station (Cost: $ 0.77).

Note: $ 1 = RM 3.055
