Cabo Mexican Kitchen & Bar - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
I had my first Mexican food in Fontera Sol of Mexico located at Petaling Jaya and that's how I fell in love with Mexican food. The spices and flavours were just amazing. It's been quite some time since I last had Mexican food and I actually started craving for it. I'm not sure whether there's any Mexican food here in Kota Kinabalu and the fastest way to find out is to go online. That's how I found out about Cabo Mexican Kitchen & Bar.
We decided to make a trip there on a Tuesday evening. The restaurant was empty when we walked in. Best thing was we got all the attention from the staff! We were lucky because it's Tuesday special where you get to buy 2 tacos of your choice and get 1 free! We ordered 3 tacos - Cabo taco which is their signature taco, blackened Tilapia taco and prawn queen taco. Among the 3 tacos, Cabo taco was my favourite. A touch of tropical taste with beef cuts, Spanish rice, cabbage and pineapple. Flour tortillas were soft and chewy. By the way, you get to choose either chicken or beef for your taco.

However, I didn't really enjoyed their blackened Tilapia taco because it tasted a bit fishy. Blackened Tilapia taco comes with grilled Tilapia, sour cream, grilled onions, refried beans and cheese. Whereas for the prawn queen taco that comes with jumbo shrimp, garden greens, refried beans and sour cream, I quite enjoyed it except for the refried beans. I find it a bit sweet for my liking and the sweetness empowered the whole taco.
Next, we ordered Chimichanga, a crispy on the outside deep fried burrito with chili con carne, onions, lettuce, pico de gallo, queso fresco and cheddar cheese served with Mexican rice. Chimichanga was full of flavours and delicious. However, Mexican rice was mushy and had a very strong flavour which I didn't really enjoyed.
We still have room for dessert and we ordered Churros, fried dough pastry served with chocolate dipping sauce. I was really disappointed with the dessert because the churros was too sweet (too much sugar coating) and chocolate dipping sauce was too diluted and grainy. Luckily we had the cold pressed juice (consist of apple, orange, carrot and pineapple) to clear our throat. The juice was very refreshing, not too sweet and nice.
