Genting Highlands (II) - 3 days 2 nights
I looked through my blog and realized our previous visits to Genting Highlands were in 2019 and 2013. What a coincidence! It looks like we have a six-year pattern. This time, we decided to go because of the MLTR concert that my partner really wanted to see. Since we were keen to explore more food options in Gohtong Jaya, my partner arranged for us to stay at Geo Resort & Hotel on the first night. It was the perfect base for our little food adventure.
After dropping off our luggage at the hotel, we headed to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets for some shopping. We spent around three hours there, and the parking cost RM 21! While waiting for my partner to shop, I got so hungry and grabbed my favourite caramel almond pretzel, pairing it with a passion fruit drink from Auntie Anne's. Maybe it was because I was too hungry, but it tasted so good that I completely forgot to take a photo!

We had our dinner at Loong Kee Restaurant. We ordered their signature pork belly, stir-fried eggplant with dried shrimps and garlic, clams in superior broth, and kung pao chicken. Their signature pork belly is thinly sliced, fried until golden brown, and coated with their house-made marmite glaze. It had that perfect balance of sweet, savoury, and crunchy flavour, just like eating pork crackers.
The stir-fried eggplant with dried shrimps and garlic looked innocent at first glance, but it actually tasted much better than it looked. I didn't really enjoy the clams in superior broth because they added what I think were basil leaves, which I'm not a fan of. The clams were fresh, but some had sand inside. Halfway through eating, we decided to add another dish, which was the kung pao chicken. It turned out decent and paired perfectly with the fluffy rice. Overall, the dinner was enjoyable, and the signature pork belly left a lasting impression on me since it was my first time trying it.

Restaurant Seng Huat Bak Kut Teh (Genting branch) is located right next to Geo Resort & Hotel. We had brunch there before checking out of the hotel at 12.30pm the next day. We ordered the small bone soup and dry mixed pork. The rice was fragrant with fried onions, and reminded me of my younger days eating bak kut teh in Klang. The soup was flavourful and the meat was tender. Overall, it was pretty satisfying. After brunch, we walked around the area, but it was too hot for me to continue, so we returned to the hotel to pack our things.

Before heading up to Genting Highlands, we stopped by Fat Boy Durian and had one Musang King durian. The stall is located right in front of Restaurant Har Wong, so you can just sit at the restaurant's tables and enjoy the durian. It was creamy, with a perfect balance of sweetness and a slight hint of bitterness. Absolutely delicious.

When we arrived at Genting Highlands, finding Genting SkyWorlds Hotel was trickier than we expected. The signboards were unclear, and we ended up making an extra loop just to locate the hotel. Even after spotting the hotel, we couldn't find the parking area. Eventually, we stopped by the roadside and asked a friendly security lady from SkyWorld Theme Park for directions. She suggested parking at either First World or Resort Hotel, and we chose the Resort Hotel car park. From there, we had to walk a short distance, dragging our bags to the hotel. In some areas, there were no escalators, so we had to carry our luggage up the stairs. The directions to the hotel were unclear, and we had to figure out the way ourselves.
After checking in, we had some time before the MLTR concert at 6pm, so we took the opportunity to stroll around SkyAvenue Mall. There were so many eateries to choose from. We needed to grab something to eat before the concert and settled on Five Guys. The first time we tried it was at Pavilion Mall Kuala Lumpur. I didn't blog about it back then, so I barely remembered what we ordered except for the strawberry milkshake, which was quite nice but very pricey.
This time, we went for a cheeseburger, a cheese dog, and a drink. We chose the 'all the way' option for the free toppings, which included mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, and mustard. The drink came with free refills, and there were also free peanuts to snack on while waiting.
The cheeseburger was good. The bread was soft, and the beef patty was juicy with no tendons. The hot dog, however, was disappointing. The bread was flaky, almost like leftover bread, and the sausage itself was just okay. Overall, the cheeseburger tasted much better. On the downside, there was no place to wash hands, and the tables were dirty. There was no staff cleaning at the time, and the previous customers had not cleared their table properly either.
All toppings are free: mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, steak sauce, barbeque sauce, and hot sauce. (All the way receives only the toppings in bold)
Drinks with free refills: Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola (no sugar), Sprite, Fanta grape/strawberry, Fuze lemon tea, and Minute Maid refresh orange.

The concert was held at the Arena of Stars. Cameras weren't allowed, so we had to walk back to our hotel to leave my camera. Our seats were BG211 and BG212. Each ticket cost RM 263.20 per person. Most of the audience were Gen X and baby boomers. The entry process wasn't strict at all. They didn't even check our bags. There were toilets inside the Arena of Stars as well, which was convenient, but the water pressure was low.
Although the concert was scheduled to start at 6pm, it actually began around 6.15pm and ended at 7.50pm. They performed 18 songs in total. However, the sound system wasn't very good. There were some high-pitch issues at the beginning, and the screen flickered in the middle of the concert. At one point, the crew had to come on stage to fix the guitarist's sound system.
Overall, the MLTR concert at the Arena of Stars was a memorable experience. After the concert ended, the exit was smooth, and the crowd dispersed quickly. My partner actually listed all of the songs MLTR performed during the concert in sequence! Here is the list of their performances.
1. Someday
2. Sleeping Child
3. Complicated Heart
4. I still Carry On
5. Blue Night

The outside temperature was around 18℃, but it felt even colder than Cameron Highlands. Feeling hungry after the concert, we decided to look for something to eat. We ended up at Zok Noodle House. I ordered the BBQ pork wonton noodle soup with a Ribena lemon soda water. The drink was refreshing, and although the BBQ pork didn't look very appealing, it tasted okay. The noodles were springy, and the soup was flavourful. My partner ordered the classic pork noodles with mian xian, which were soft and slurpy, and the soup was rich. You could also choose between ramen, wonton noodles, and handmade noodles. Overall, the meal wasn't bad, and it was nice to have a warm, soupy dish in the cold weather.
We finished by 10pm and went to check out both the SkyCasino and Genting Casino. Genting Casino looked smaller and seemed to be undergoing some renovation. There were free drinks in the casino, and I tried the peach tea, which wasn't great, as it was still in powdered form. Besides that, the lemon juice was too sweet for my liking. We got a bit lost trying to find Genting Casino and had to ask a security guard for directions. He told us to follow the Genting Grand Complex sign. After exploring the casinos, we finally found our way back to the hotel and called it a night.

The next day, we checked out from Genting Skyworlds Hotel around 11.30am. Instead of having lunch at SkyAvenue Mall, we decided to head to Gohtong Jaya. On the way down, we also explore Grand Ion Delemen and Awana Genting, but there wasn't much to see there, and the atmosphere wasn't as lively as Genting Highlands.

My partner chose Restaurant Chuan Kie for lunch, and we ordered the Chuan Kie special crispy baked pork, crispy pumpkin with salted egg, and claypot water spinach. The crispy pork was the highlight. It's crispy on the outside, slightly chewy, and full of flavour. Honestly, I think it tasted better than the crispy baked pork at Loong Kee Restaurant. It paired perfectly with the cucumbers, which were fresh, juicy, and crunchy. The crispy pumpkin was also good, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Overall, the meal was very enjoyable.

We still couldn't get over the durian that we had the day before, so we decided to have it again. This time, we tried the stall next to the previous one. It was even cheaper, and the owner was friendlier. The durian was creamy and sweet, just as good as the one we had the day before. We were glad we gave this stall a try.

We left Gohtong Jaya around 1.50pm, and instead of heading straight to KLIA, we decided to stop by our new favourite dessert spot, Binq. They offer eight types of bingsu, and our favourite is the pistachio bingsu, which comes with chocolate butter crisp, glazed pistachio crumbs, and white sugar jelly. The finely shaved ice is light and fluffy, melting smoothly in your mouth. The glazed pistachio crumbs add a rich, nutty crunch, while the chocolate butter crisp gives a satisfying texture contrast. The white sugar jelly provides a subtle sweetness, and the chewy bite complements the flavour perfectly. Every spoonful is a mix of creamy, crunchy, nutty, and sweet, making it easy to see why this has become our new favourite dessert.
Overall, our Genting Highlands trip was filled with fun, food, and memorable experiences. We will definitely be back to Gohtong Jaya to enjoy the durian, which so far has been one of the best Musang King durians we've had.
