Cameron Highlands - Day 3

On our last day in Cameron Highlands, we were determined to squeeze in a few more eating spots before leaving. After checking out of the Zenith Hotel at 11.11am, we headed to The Lord’s Cafe. It's a cozy cafe known for its cream scones, located just a 6-minute walk (500m) from the hotel. The cafe is on the first floor, and a small staircase leads you up to this old-fashioned interior, almost like stepping back in time.

We ordered a cream scone served warm with butter, homemade strawberry jam, and whipped cream, along with a cup of Cameron Valley Tea. The scone was slightly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, with a texture similar to the biscuit base of a cheesecake. Both the scone and strawberry jam were good. The combination of butter, cream, and jam made each bite rich and indulgent. The tea was light, even after adding milk, but it went well with the scone. It was the best way to begin our final day.

Our next stop was Abang Strawberry. That afternoon was so hot that you didn't even need a jacket. When we arrived, there was a long queue. So I went down to get in line while my partner looked for parking. The road was narrow, with only one lane each way, but he managed to find a spot by the roadside. We had to share a table with a couple because the restaurant was so crowded.

We ordered a cup of ice-blended strawberry that was refreshing and slightly sweet. It tasted much better than the one we had on the first day. We also tried their nasi lemak with daging dendeng and a piece of fried chicken. The rice was a bit hard for my liking, and its red colour, was quite eye-catching. However, the fried chicken was fresh, crunchy, and juicy. It was good.

There were two types of sambal, including a salted fish version. Both were tasty and not too spicy. The beef was slightly tough but flavourful. Besides that, the anchovies were perfectly crisp. The meal also came with two strawberries, which were quite sour. Overall, lunch was decent, nothing to rave about, but not disappointing either.

We left Abang Strawberry around 1pm and got stuck in traffic on the way to Rasa Soya Cafe. We finally arrived about an hour later. Once there, we ordered a hot soya with black sesame tang yuan and a strawberry bing shave. We placed our order at the counter, and we paid right after. The strawberry was quite sour, and the popping boba had a peculiar taste. The jelly was alright, slightly sweet, and the shaved ice came with strawberry sauce and soya milk. The soya milk itself wasn't sweet, while the strawberry sauce added a tangy kick. At the bottom of the shaved ice was tau fu fa, which was soft, smooth, and one of the best parts of the dessert.

The hot soya was warm but needed sugar to taste just right. The tang yuan, or glutinous rice balls with sesame filling, were sweet but a little hard and chewy. They gave three, and I only managed to finish half, leaving the rest untouched. The grass jelly was nice. Next time, I'll probably just stick to the tau fu fa with grass jelly. We left around 2.40pm, and the journey to Lou Wong in Ipoh took roughly two hours and twenty minutes. And just like that, our 3-day 2-night stay in Cameron Highlands came to an end.
