Cameron Highlands - Day 2 (Kea Farm - Cameron Valley - Cameron Night Market - Central Night Market)

On our second day in Cameron Highlands, we initially planned to have brunch at the restaurant next to Mr. Aisu. However, it was closed for cleaning. So we headed to He Ping Xiao Shi Restaurant instead, which was just a 4-minute walk (220m) from Mr. Aisu. After we ordered our food, we saw flies flying around, and there were a few sticky fly traps set on the cashier counter. The food was decent, but the lady running the place was unfriendly.

My partner ordered their signature dry curry pork noodles, which came with bean sprouts and curry pork. The curry wasn't very spicy, and it was rather nice. Whereas I ordered the claypot yee mee, which included slices of fish cakes, a raw egg, and minced pork. It tasted like regular yee mee, though I felt very thirsty afterward. For drinks, my partner had teh c ping kosong (no sugar). His drink was smooth and creamy. It would have tasted even better with a little sugar.

(Total bill - RM 26.60)

After brunch, we walked over to Mr. Aisu and ordered the Strawberry Lover. They offered free ice cream tastings, and I chose the strawberry flavour. The dessert came with two waffles topped with one scoop of ice cream, fresh strawberries, and strawberry sauce. The strawberry was slightly sour, and the ice cream had a mild tang but was smooth, with small bits of strawberry mixed in. The waffle was crispy on the outside at first, but it became soft after a while. One of the knives provided was dirty with visible stains, which was disappointing. Overall, the experience was just average.

Our next stop was Kea Farm. We passed by Raju's Hill Strawberry Farm along the way, but it looked completely deserted, so we headed straight to Kea Farm. The traffic was heavy, and finding a parking spot was challenging. Eventually, we parked at a paid lot that charged RM 4 per hour, which also offered a free buggy service to the market. Most of the stalls sold similar items such as strawberries, corn, ice cream, soft toys, snacks, and flowers. There were also alpaca and sheep, and visitors could buy grass to feed them for RM 3 per stack. We spent less than two hours there and paid a total of RM 8.48 for parking using a credit card, as the system was cashless. We left around 3.35pm and headed to Cameron Valley.

There are three Cameron Valley Tea Houses, and we visited Tea House no. 2. We arrived around 4.05pm, and the cafe offered a beautiful view of the tea plantation. If you want to explore the plantation, you can walk in for RM 4 per person or take a buggy ride for RM 20 per person. I chose to skip it, as it didn't look very interesting. Instead, I had an apple pie with ice cream, while my partner had a hot teh tarik. The apple pie was slightly sweet with a soft crust, and the vanilla ice cream was just okay. I couldn't finish it because it wasn't that tasty. Whereas the teh tarik was less creamy and had a strong taste of tea.

On the way back to our hotel, my partner wanted to stop by Rose Cottage, where we had previously spent a holiday with his grandparents, parents, and other family members. I was so focused on photographing the goat and the friendly dog that I completely forgot to take a picture of the cottage!

We drove out for dinner and had steamboat at Restaurant Mountain House. A trip to Cameron Highlands is incomplete without eating steamboat. The steamboat costs RM 35 per person and must be ordered in groups of two or more. The owner was kind enough to let us order 1.5 portions for RM 50. We got to choose the soup base, and we went with chicken and tom yum soups.

The set came with two eggs, vermicelli, fried egg noodles (yee mee), chicken cubes, slices of dory fish, two prawns, tofu, enoki and oyster mushroom, and vegetables. The broth was decent, but I felt very thirsty after the meal. I also noticed that one piece of tofu and some of the oyster mushrooms didn't taste very fresh. Overall, it was a regular steamboat meal.

We had the chance to visit the Cameron Night Market, which only opens on Fridays and Saturdays. We parked by the roadside, as the traffic was heavy near the market. The stalls offered a variety of items, including clothes, fresh fruits, flowers, local vegetables, food, and handmade crafts. The air was filled with the tempting aromas of grilled corn and fried snacks. At first, I was hesitant to try the corn, but my partner insisted, and I'm glad he did. We bought jagung susu for RM 4, and it was delicious. It's sweet and crunchy. Although many stalls were selling it, the one at the end of the market had the best price.

Within walking distance from our hotel, there's a Family Mart. Both of us were craving sofuto, and we decided to grab one. Since there was a promotion, we got two Rose Lychee Sufotos for just RM 2. They were creamy, smooth, and best eaten in the cold.
