Mataking Reef Resort - Mataking Island, Sabah

Mataking Reef Resort is located at Mataking Island, 15 minutes boat ride from Pom Pom Island Resort. There's 6 types of room - Garden view deluxe, Premium room, King chalet, Semi-D beach chalet, Beach chalet and Villa. All together there's 63 rooms. We booked a 3 days 2 nights non-diving package at a Garden view deluxe room @ RM 1,513 per pax excluding jetty fee of RM 2 per person. Total package is RM 3,030 for 2 person. Package includes transfer from (Mataking Island - Semporna Jetty - Tawau Airport), 2 nights accommodation (double sharing room with air-conditioning, fresh water hot shower & attached bathroom), full board meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner in buffet style), free flow of coffee/tea, chill juice and light snacks at restaurant.

Garden view deluxe (west) comes with a double bed, day bed, couch, vanity table & chair, ceiling fan, self controlled air conditioning, in-room safe, hair dryer, coffee or tea making facilities, drinking water (in glass bottle - not sealed), mini fridge, TV with limited channels (only 4 channels available including HBO) disposable slippers and toiletries. There's a private sundeck with garden chair. Room is clean, modern, bright and spacious. Air cond is very cold and bedsheets smell good. Bed is comfy and soft, not to mention the pillow looks new and comfortable.

Bathroom looks clean and shower is separated from the toilet with its own cubicle. There's no lock for both the shower and toilet door. In fact the door is transparent! Water pressure is low but water is very hot. Toilet bowl doesn't look very clean as there's black stains in it. Guests are encourage to change their towel every 2 days to help save the environment. However, there's stain on my towel and the friendly staff changed it for me the next day. The bathroom vanity is a bit too low but good thing is they have dual basins.

Upon check in, we leave our luggage at the reception counter and shortly later their friendly buggy brought our luggage to our room. When we tried to use their in-room safe for the first time, the alarm went off. Luckily there's hotel room phone and we managed to get the staff to check for us. Seems that the previous guests played a little prank by locking the safe and leave some junk inside. There's no WiFi in our room but it's available at the restaurant and resort lobby. Resort only have coverage network for Celcom/Tunetalk. So make sure you subscribe to Celcom/Tunetalk before check in to the resort. Overall it's a pleasant stay and a great place to relax.

Our stay in  Kinabalu Pine Resort  comes with breakfast for 2 adults. Breakfast start from 7am to 10am. They only serve ala-carte breakfast and you need to pre-book it at The Pines Restaurant latest by 9.30pm for your next day's breakfast. There's Malay, Chinese, Western or kids breakfast set. Apart from that, there's free flow of Tenom coffee, Sabah tea, mango and orange juice. Hounon Ridge Farmstay & Camping - Kundasang, Sabah

Hounon Ridge Farmstay is located at Kampung Himbaan Bundu Tuhan, 36 minutes drive from Kundasang town. The road heading to Bundu Tuhan is very steep and narrow. There's no street light and driving at night can be hazardous if you are not familiar with the road condition. Be particularly alert when driving and watch out for cows, chickens and stray dogs on the side of the road. There's 4 types of room available. If you are the adventurous type and not afraid of cold, you can even camp outside Hounon Ridge Farmstay.
