Kuantan, Pahang -> Kemaman, Terengganu - Food Hunting Trip (Day I)
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. So, last month me and my partner took a week off and went for cuti-cuti Malaysia. The main purpose of our cuti-cuti Malaysia was "food hunting"! This time we decided to travel from Kuala Lumpur - Kuantan - Kemaman - Kuala Terengganu - Pulau Redang - Ipoh - Kuala Lumpur.
We started our journey at 7.30am on a Sunday morning and reached Teluk Chempedak, Kuantan around 10.45am. First stop of the day was my favourite curry noodles in this restoran Hoi Yin. We made a return to this restaurant after nine months. We were here previously during our Kuantan, Pahang Food Hunting trip. Click here to read my previous food hunting trip in Kuantan. As usual the crowd was really crazy! We managed to find a small table and shared with a stranger. Just one word to describe the curry noodles - delicious!

Since it was still too early for us to check in Resorts World Kijal, we strolled around the city and took a tea break at Kedai Kopi Hai Peng. This is the shop that makes Kemaman famous for coffee. A cup of ice blended coffee cost us RM7.30 which I find it abit pricey but it was good. The sugar level was just right. Normally I will get palpitations after drinking coffee but not this ice blended.
The shop was very crowded and we were unable to find a table. Luckily we managed to share a table with a group of friendly local people. It was so nice of them to share the small table with the two of us.
We ordered the nasi lemak bungkus (prepack), toasted bread and bun, half boiled eggs and a piece of curry puff. The nasi lemak bungkus was good even though it only comes with sambal ikan bilis (anchovies) and cucumber. I preferred the toasted bread - thickly cut slices of toast bread spread with butter and kaya (coconut egg jam) compared to the toasted bun as the bun was abit too hard and dry for me. The half boiled eggs were just right and not overly cooked. They served the hard boiled egg in a mug contained hot water and a plate. The curry puff was so-so.
After our late lunch we checked in Resorts World Kijal, went for a swim and had a relaxing soak in the jaccuzi tub. Click here to find out more about Resorts World Kijal.

We had our dinner in this Restoran Tong Juan which is famous for stuffed-crab. The restaurant was quite empty when we entered. My partner ordered a very special drink called the pandan selasih. The drink contains basil seeds or in malay "biji selasih" and pandan leaves. Refreshing drink with a sourly taste.
Besides that we ordered a piece of stuffed crab, a bowl of fish balls, steam siakap fish and a plate of fried kangkung belacan. The fish was fresh and the stuffed-crab was unique because this is the first time we tried this dish. I'm a fish ball lover but I don't really fancy the fish balls here because it tasted fishy. Overall the food was ok.
While having our dinner, my partner bumped into his high school senior and thanks to him we had a free dinner!
