Redang Island Resort - Pulau Redang, Terengganu
Redang Island is one of the largest islands off the east coast of Malaysia. We stayed in Redang Island Resort (A member of Berjaya group), approximately one and a half hour ferry ride from Kuala Terengganu (Shahbandar Ferry Terminal) to Pulau Redang Jetty.
Once we arrived at Pulau Redang Jetty, Redang Island Resort already arranged a bus to pick us up at the end of the jetty. Journey from the jetty to Redang Island Resort took around 3 minutes. When we checked in, we were warmly greeted by the reception staff and a van was ready to pick us up to our chalet. (There is a short walk up a semi steep hill from the resort lobby to the chalets)
There are many chalets and each chalet comes with 4 rooms. The room has a mini fridge, hair dryer, 2 complimentary bottles of mineral water, TV with selected Astro Channels, free wireless internet, ceiling fan and fully air-conditioned room. Each room comes with a private balcony either facing the rainforest or jetty. We were warned not to leave our clothes or towel outside the balcony as there are wild monkeys living in the rainforest that might take our clothes or towel away. Spacious room and bathroom but when we entered the room, it smelled musty! In fact we found a dead lizard outside the bathroom.
The resort is very quiet and old. In fact I have the feeling as if I'm trapped on a deserted island. There's only one small convenience store inside the resort, selling few cups of Maggi mee and some toiletries. The only place you can dine is in Santapan Cafe. Besides that, the private beach was a big disappointment and same goes to Teluk Siang. The water was dirty and the area was unkempt. Basically there's not much activities here unless you sign up for island day trip, island hopping or snorkeling trips.
