Phu Quoc - Day 3 (Grand World Phu Quoc)
It's our third day in Phu Quoc, and after the heavy rain last night, the weather turned hot and humid once again. We decided to spend the day just relaxing at the hotel since I really didn't feel like going anywhere in this heat. We went down for breakfast at 8.45am, and I'm glad to discover that the breakfast menu has changed. I tried the fried rice and sticky rice, but they were a bit hard, and the chicken was dry. On the plus side, the longans were sweet, and I still prefer the porridge, which was comforting.

By 11am, we decided to relax on the beach. Yuan and I took a walk over to the abandoned Eden Resort. It was heartbreaking to see such a beautiful location left in ruins. The seawater along the beach was not particularly clean, and the sand was brownish in colour. We were feeling very thirsty after the walk, and it was disappointing that the resort does not provide complimentary drinking water beside the pool.

The Songkran Festival is celebrated annually from April 13 to April 15 in Thailand. It marks the traditional Thai New Year and is well-known for its nationwide water fights, which symbolize purification and the washing away of sins and bad luck. To join in the spirit of Songkran, the resort is hosting a one-day celebration featuring a Thai street food festival, a water festival at the pool, a welcome Thai BBQ buffet dinner, and a special beachfront Thai BBQ buffet (price: 650,000 VND per adult, including a welcome cocktail).
While relaxing at the beach, we watched the resort staff having fun playing water games and spraying guests with water guns. My partner and his buddy took a swim in the ocean before heading to the pool. They ended up playing handball with an Italian guy named Lorenzo. He made things interesting by suggesting the winners get a glass of beer. My partner ended up winning, while his buddy lost and treated him to a drink. However, since my partner doesn't drink, he politely declined the beer.
We spent the afternoon hanging out by both the beach and pool until 2.45pm. Then, a resort staff member invited me to draw a ball for a lucky gift. I picked number 1, and my prize was a packet of sugar-coated biscuits, which I opened and shared with the others.

We had our late lunch at Anna's, a spot recommended by Lorenzo. We ordered a coconut smoothie, shrimp summer roll, Vietnamese shrimp and chicken sizzling crepe, grilled lemongrass pork with sugarcane shrimp sauce, and Phu Quoc fish cake. The fish cakes were a bit hard and chewy, but the dipping sauce was full of flavour. The coconut smoothie was refreshing and not too sweet. It came with nice bits of coconut. The grilled lemongrass pork had some tendons, but it was flavourful with a strong lemongrass aroma. Overall, it was a satisfying meal in a pleasant setting, and a good pick for a laid-back lunch in Phu Quoc.

After our late lunch, it started to rain, and we made a spontaneous decision to visit Grand World. Conveniently, the Khu nghỉ dưỡng Salinda stop was located right in front of the restaurant. We hopped on the VinBus, and after a 50-minute ride, we arrived at Grand World around 6.30pm. It was drizzling when we got there. Since Grand World is an open-air complex, we walked around in the light rain before settling down for dinner at Vựa Hải Sản Cuờng Kua 2.
One of the main attractions at Grand World Phu Quoc is the Gondola Ride on the Venice River, also known as the Lake of Love. We also stopped by the Teddy Bear Museum, but unfortunately it was closed when we arrived. Right next to it, there's a souvenir shop with teddy-themed gifts. Another highlight was the Huyền Thoại Tre (Bamboo Legend) structure, which really stood out with its impressive scale and intricate design. As for the Tinh Hoa Vietnam (Quintessence of Vietnam) live performance, it required a separate entrance fee, so we decided to skip it this time.

At Vựa hải sản Cuờng Kua 2, we ordered the shark fish hot pot and grilled squid with salt and chili, since his buddy is a big fan of squid. We also had to order two bottles of spring water (15,000 VND each), as they don't provide any complimentary drinking water. The shark meat was quite tough, and the squid turned out to be rather bland. The hot pot soup had a slight sourness but lacked flavour. Overall, the food was average. However, my partner and his buddy did enjoy eating the instant noodles served with the hot pot. It was their favourite part of the meal.

The timing was perfect, and after dinner we walked over to watch the Charm of Venice Show, which starts from 9.30pm to 10pm. The place was crowded, and many people blocked the view. Honestly, the show wasn't impressive. Before it ended, his buddy and wife decided to head back early. We hurried to catch the 10.15pm VinBus, as Yuan said the next one wouldn't come for another 15 minutes. We saw the bus coming and ran for it. It turned out it was only 10.10pm, and the driver waited another 5 minutes before leaving. We arrived back at the hotel around 11.05pm. Later that night, my partner and his buddy went for an aloe vera treatment because both of them had gotten badly sunburned earlier in the day.
