M Roof Hotel & Residences - Ipoh, Perak

M Roof Hotel & Residences is located in Ipoh, just 5 minutes (300m) walking distance from Stadium Perak. The hotel is quite a distance away from my favourite Restaurant Tauge Ayam Lou Wong, approximately 10 minutes drive (3.8km).

We stayed one night in a deluxe twin room that comes with two single beds, a TV with limited channels, a lazy sofa, air conditioning with individual temperature control, three complimentary bottles of drinking water, coffee or tea making facilities (the spoon is stained and filthy), a mini fridge, two pairs of disposable slippers, an iron, an ironing board, two bathrobes, a hair dryer, an in-room safe, a torch light, complimentary WiFi (they only allow up to a maximum of two concurrent devices to connect to their WiFi network per room but speed is rather slow) and basic toiletries.

The guest room is modern and comfortable in style but there are only a few charging plugs. The bed is very comfy and comes with two pillows. The bathroom has a sliding door design but the latch is broken. The shower and toilet cubicle are separated by a clear glass and share the same transparent sliding door. However, it's difficult to slide the sliding door and it got stuck as I was exiting the shower. Luckily, I was not alone in the room and my partner came to the rescue after hearing my cries for help. I couldn't imagine what would happen if I stayed in this hotel room by myself!

The hotel only provides one small bottle of shower gel which is insufficient for the two of us. Apart from that, the bathroom sink is low and drains slowly. Besides that, the towel appears to be worn and there isn't much space to hang clothes. The shower has normal water pressure, but water is not hot enough. After taking a shower halfway, the water becomes cold in less than 5 minutes! I've never had a hotel shower this short. When we complained about the chilly shower, the hotel employees remained deafeningly silent.

A key card is required for access to the guest room floor. We assumed there's no facilities because there's none listed in the lift directory. Overall, the chilly shower and jammed sliding door made for an unpleasant stay.

Our stay in  Kinabalu Pine Resort  comes with breakfast for 2 adults. Breakfast start from 7am to 10am. They only serve ala-carte breakfast and you need to pre-book it at The Pines Restaurant latest by 9.30pm for your next day's breakfast. There's Malay, Chinese, Western or kids breakfast set. Apart from that, there's free flow of Tenom coffee, Sabah tea, mango and orange juice. Hounon Ridge Farmstay & Camping - Kundasang, Sabah

Hounon Ridge Farmstay is located at Kampung Himbaan Bundu Tuhan, 36 minutes drive from Kundasang town. The road heading to Bundu Tuhan is very steep and narrow. There's no street light and driving at night can be hazardous if you are not familiar with the road condition. Be particularly alert when driving and watch out for cows, chickens and stray dogs on the side of the road. There's 4 types of room available. If you are the adventurous type and not afraid of cold, you can even camp outside Hounon Ridge Farmstay. Our room was on the 1st floor overlooking Mount Kinabalu. Great view and you can slide the glass window to get some fresh air.
