Tawau/Semporna - Day 3 (Kapalai Dive Resort)
I didn't get up for sunrise because it's on the other side of the resort. We went for breakfast at 8am. A good fried egg has crispy brown edges and finding one is difficult. I prefer smooth, velvety porridge but their pumpkin porridge tastes more like cooked rice soup and tastes flat. Besides that, their waffles are cold and hash browns are too oily. However, I really like their soft and fluffy buns.
As we strolled around the resort after breakfast, it began to pour heavily. We're all drenched, but it's a lot of fun to walk in the rain. I enjoy walking through the rain and feeling the raindrops on my skin. Instead of returning to our chalet, we chose to explore the resort in the rain. We were able to walk on the sandbank beneath our chalet because it was low tide. The water was clear, and we observed a lot of starfish. The sun came out shortly after and it's all heated again. I'm wondering when I'll be able to walk in the rain again...
We had our lunch at 12.30pm. We used to love their fish dish, but not any longer. It's dry, tough and lack of flavour. We later learned that the chef has been replaced. We didn't really enjoy our tea break as well. My partner and friends went snorkeling in the late afternoon while I chilled and enjoyed the sea breeze. I went back to where we saw the sea snake yesterday, and guess what? It's still there. That must be its nesting site. Again, the weather was gloomy, and I was unable to capture a beautiful sunset photo. On the bright side, while waiting for dusk, I noticed another sea turtle!
We had our dinner at 7pm and while walking to the restaurant there's a huge sea snake creeping on the wooden plank. I was unaware of it because the road leading to the restaurant was dark. Luckily, the staff shoved it into the sea before I could see it. Dinner was pasta carbonara, which was delicious. The pasta is cooked to perfection. Korean chicken wings are also tasty, but they are even better when served hot. We hung out in the restaurant area after dinner and saw four stingrays and a squid.
On the way back to our chalet, we came across a huge sea snake with a large stomach. I guess the sea snake has been eating crabs because there are a handful of them beside the snake. This is most likely the same sea snake that my friends spotted earlier. Aside from that, we saw two sea turtles, one of which was rather large. While relaxing on our chalet balcony, Yuan and I noticed a faint meteor. We weren't sure if we witnessed it because it was moving so fast that it was out of sight. There's isn't much to do at night, we ended up chilling at the same area drinking beer again...
