Promenade Hotel - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

A good friend of ours (lovely couple) gave us a complimentary one night stay in a superior room for 2 persons at Promenade Hotel Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. They even gave us a voucher to upgrade the room from a superior room to a deluxe room! Thanks, guys. We really appreciate it! We had a great time hanging around KK town until late night and Hotel Promenade was just a short walking distance from Hard Rock Cafe, Kota Kinabalu.

We checked in a deluxe room offer views of the swimming pool and the sea. The only difference between a superior and deluxe room is the view. (city view vs sea view). Our room comes with a king size bed, LCD TV, working desk, in room safe deposit box, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, free internet connection, complimentary 2 bottles of drinking water, self controlled air conditioning, hair dryer, bathroom with cold or hot shower, bathtub (slow water drainage), iron & ironing board and limited TV channels (TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, BBC World, Phoenix Chinese Channel, TLC, NHK World and FOX Sports).

The room has a touch screen wall switch and when you insert your hotel room key card in the wall slot, there's a digital display outside your room number that shows the room is occupied. I don't really like this concept because there's lack of privacy and strangers will know whether you are in the room or not. Besides, anyone can access to the guest room floor at anytime.

Quite a good hotel in terms of location wise but not a very pleasant stay for us. There's no towel in the bathroom and the cotton buds have been exposed. Carpet was dirty and one of the bedside table lamp was not working. Apart from that, the fridge was locked. We called the receptionist and waited for quite some time before the housekeeping people turned up with our towels. We were given the blue towels which was used in the gym instead of the white towels.

Then, we waited again for the hotel staff to unlock the fridge. We were curious why they locked the fridge and was told that the previous guest who stayed in this room requested them to locked it. We complaint to him regarding the faulty lamp and incomplete toiletries. He made a call to his colleague and requested them to check and replenish whatever is missing. Few minutes later, someone came knocking on our door and just gave a set of toiletries. He did not perform the checking and nope... they did not exchange the blue towels to the white ones. We were so tired of waiting and complaining so were decided to use whatever that has been provided to us earlier.

The hotel was under renovation and we were struggling to find the swimming pool which can only be accessed from the 2nd floor Leisure Centre. (Inside the Leisure Centre there's gym, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room) Walk down the stairs from 2nd floor Leisure Centre until you reach the ground floor and turn right. It was quite dark when we reached there around 6pm and there's no lifeguard at the swimming pool. So, swim at your own risk and be careful of the swimming pool because it becoming deeper with each step. The swimming pool is just beside Promenade Cafe and of course the easiest access is through Promenade Cafe but you wouldn't want to walk past the Cafe wrapped in a towel.

I woke up with a stiff neck the next day due to the pillow that lack of proper support and the room was freezing cold even though we have adjusted the temperature. We checked out shortly after noon and not to mention they never fix the faulty lamp!
