Kuala Terengganu -> Pulau Redang - Food Hunting Trip (Day IV)

Yay.. we are going to Redang Island!!! This was my first trip to the Island and definately won't be the last. We checked out from Intan Beach Resort early in the morning and had our breakfast at Kedai Makan Soon Kee. One of the well-known bak kut teh place among locals located just beside Restoran Golden Dragon.

We ordered only 1 portion of meat (clay pot soup version) and "yau char kwai" (golden-brown deep fried dough). The clay pot soup version consists of meat, vegetables, button mushrooms, shiitake mushrooms, beancurd and tau pok (deep-fat fried tofu). The bak kut teh is light and leaves a lingering aftertaste of liquorice which I don't really fancy. The meal cost us RM13.30 for 2 plates of rice, 1 plate of "yau char kwai", one portion of meat and a glass of cold water.

We dropped by Restoran Sin Phin Siang to "tapau" (In hokkien means to take away) the famous little bun. This little bun is toasted and spread with kaya and butter before served. The restaurant was very crowded when we walked in. Since we need to catch the 10.30 ferry to Redang Island we don't have the time to sit down and enjoy the buns. The buns were soft but I find it so-so.

We bought our ferry tickets - RM55 per person (one way). Wow... never expect the ferry ticket to be so expensive! A return ferry ticket cost us RM110 excluding RM5 conservation charge. We parked our car in an open air parking beside the ferry Terminal and to be safe we parked under the CCTV camera.

The journey took us 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Redang Island. The ferry dropped all the Redang Island Resort's guest before proceed to other Islands. We stayed in Redang Island Resort for 3 days 2 night. There's no nightlife in Redang Island Resort. I guess the only activity you can do at night is watch tv! Thinking of going out for a drink or sitting by the beach enjoying the gentle sea breeze? You can just forget it! They have a private beach but the water is very dirty and the area was unkempt.

We had our lunch at Santapan Cafe, the only place we can find food in this Resort. The menu was quite limited and the price was at the higher side. I ordered Cantonese fried rice consists of fried rice, dice vegetables, chicken meat, fried egg and chicken wing. My partner ordered the Nasi Goreng Kampung - spicy fried rice, chicken, prawn, vegetables, fried egg, chicken sate and fish crackers.

Our dinner was at Santapan Cafe as well. This time I ordered the Ginger beef - stir fried beef sliced with ginger and onion served with steamed rice while my partner ordered Mee Goreng Mamak - stir fried yellow noodles with vegetables, bean sprouts, egg, chicken, bean curd, seafood and potato. Overall the food was ok.
