We also enjoyed a few extra perks during our stay thanks to my partner’s Marriott Bonvoy Platinum membership. During check-in, he was given a choice between 1,000 Marriott Bonvoy points, a complimentary fruit basket, or a complimentary drink such as wine, a soft drink or Tiger beer. He chose the points, but the staff kindly let us enjoy the complimentary drinks as well. The drinks could be served anytime, even in our room.

At reception, we also paid RM 605.34 for an additional night. As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, my partner was eligible for a room upgrade, subject to availability, and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite. The suite was very spacious, with a separate living area and a private balcony. There was also a complimentary fruit basket waiting for us, which included an orange, a red apple, a green apple and a pear.

Inside the suite, there were two Smart TVs, with one in the living area and another in the bedroom. The Astro channel selection was quite limited, and the picture quality was a little fuzzy. There was also a mini fridge, a coffee machine and tea-making facilities. The fridge was not cold when we arrived, but after we informed the staff, they replaced it with another one.

The bed was soft and comfortable, and I particularly enjoyed having a bathtub in the room. I also liked that the bathroom had two doors, with one entrance from the living area and another from the bedroom. This made it convenient to access the bathroom from either side of the suite. When we first arrived, the water from both the bathtub and shower was not hot enough, and the shower pressure was also not particularly strong. However, when I took a bath after dinner, the water was hot, so this improved later in the evening. The shower area can also become quite slippery when wet, so it is worth being a little careful.

There were a few other things we noticed during our stay. The air-conditioning was not cold enough in the afternoon, although the room was much cooler at night. The balcony sliding door was also a little difficult to open and close. There were only a limited number of power outlets, with just one in the bedroom, which was slightly inconvenient when we had several devices to charge. Wi-Fi was available in the living area, although the signal was not particularly strong. However, there was no Wi-Fi coverage in the bedroom, so we had to stay in the living area whenever we needed to use the internet. This was one of the benefits of staying in the suite, as the standard rooms do not come with Wi-Fi.

After settling into the room, I realised that I had forgotten to bring my facial wash, so I called reception to ask if they had any facial soap. Initially, the staff told me that they did not have any, but they called back later to ask how many we needed. A staff member then came to our room and brought us two facial bars. I appreciated that they took the extra effort to help us out. However, while the staff were helpful with the facial soap, we noticed that the shower gel was not refilled during housekeeping. By the end of our stay, we were almost out of shower gel.

We also had a look at the resort facilities. The resort has a swimming pool and a gym. There was no lifeguard on duty at the swimming pool when we were there, and the gym's air-conditioning was not working during our visit. We also noticed quite a lot of mosquitoes along the walkways, so it would be useful to bring some mosquito repellent, especially if you plan to spend time outdoors.

One thing we really enjoyed about staying at Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa was how quiet it was at night. After spending the day exploring Mulu, it was nice to return to the resort and have a peaceful evening. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, particularly the comfortable bed, spacious living area and bathtub, although there were a few things that could have been better during our visit.
