Latest Recipe Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur
During our stay in Kuala Lumpur, we decided to try the buffet dinner at Latest Recipe, located at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur. The buffet dinner is available from 6.30pm to 10.30pm, and we arrived around 6.10pm, giving us some time to wait before the buffet officially opened. My partner had recently signed up for the Marriott membership, which cost RM 790 for one year and came with two complimentary buffet dinners. Since we enjoy exploring different dining experiences, we decided to use one of the complimentary dinners to try out Latest Recipe.
While waiting for the buffet to begin, I took some time to observe the chefs preparing the food. During this time, I noticed one of the chefs at the Indian section tasting the sauce with a small spoon. He later appeared to taste from several bowls as well. Since his back was facing us, we could not clearly confirm whether a fresh spoon was used each time. However, seeing this made us feel slightly uncomfortable while waiting for the buffet to start.
Once the buffet opened, we started exploring the different sections and trying the dishes available. Unfortunately, the food quality did not meet our expectations. The salmon did not seem particularly fresh, and the chicken had a powdery texture that made it less enjoyable. The teppanyaki beef also did not suit my taste, as it had an unusual flavour that I found slightly unpleasant. Among the dishes I tried, the braised beef cooked in coriander and soy paste with curry leaf were probably the ones I enjoyed the most.
The dessert selection was also disappointing. The blueberry cheesecake had a sourish taste with a soft texture that did not appeal to me, while the red bean soup was unexpectedly salty. These dishes did not leave a good impression and were not what we expected from a hotel buffet. Usually, when dining at a buffet, we look forward to going back for a second round to try more dishes. However, this time, my partner did not even feel like getting another serving, which was a clear sign that the overall experience was not very satisfying for us.
While the dining environment was comfortable and the buffet offered a good variety of dishes, the overall food quality and flavours did not meet our expectations. Perhaps it was simply not the right choice for our taste, but we felt the experience was not as enjoyable as we had hoped. Nevertheless, we were glad to have tried it and experienced the buffet for ourselves.
