Pearl Island Resort - Bohey Dulang Island, Sabah
Pearl Island Resort is a new luxury water chalet resort located on Bohey Dulang Island in Sabah, Malaysia. This resort is managed by the same management as Kapalai Dive Resort. Currently, the resort has 26 chalets, with more under construction. My partner booked a 4-day, 3-night non-diver package at RM 2,910.60 per person, including 8% SST. The booking was made through Unique Inworld Sdn Bhd, the appointed travel agent. The package includes transfers between Tawau Airport - Semporna private jetty - Pearl Island Resort - Semporna private jetty - Tawau Airport by van and speedboat, full board meals (breakfast, lunch, tea break & dinner in buffet style), free flow of coffee/tea, chilled juice, cold water, and light snacks at the restaurant.
The chalet at Pearl Island Resort was spacious and generally well equipped. It came with a king-size bed and a single bed, a mini fridge, an umbrella, mosquito spray, four bottles of drinking water, coffee and tea-making facilities, two sofas, and a bar table. There was also an in-room safe, although it was not working when we first checked in. We informed the maintenance team, and they fixed it promptly. The chalet also had individually controlled air conditioning, two pairs of slippers, and complete toiletries.
During our stay at Pearl Island Resort, the room felt quite warm even with an additional portable air conditioner. There was no ceiling fan, so we opened all the windows for better ventilation, which helped make the room slightly cooler during the daytime. The bathroom had an open-concept design. The bathtub drained directly into the sea and was clean, but it took about 30 minutes to fill up completely. The water pressure was very low, and the water heater operated on solar power. It will turn off automatically if it is not used for an extended period of time. There were no shelves in the shower room to place personal toiletries, and there was no proper space at the basin to put the hand soap.
The bed was quite firm, and the blanket was rather thin. We also noticed that a single-bed mattress protector had been used on the king-sized bed. The chalet featured a private balcony overlooking the blue sea, but it was fitted with a low barrier. In terms of safety, there was no emergency life buoy on the balcony. Besides that, the room door also lacked an interior latch.
On a positive note, U Mobile network coverage at the resort was good, and the complimentary resort Wi-Fi was very fast. Guests could also enjoy free snorkeling in a designated area, with a lifeguard on duty for added safety.
