The Westin Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur
The Westin Kuala Lumpur is located in the heart of Bukit Bintang, just across from The Pavilion KL and next to the JW Marriott Hotel. The location is perfect for shopping lovers, as Fahrenheit 88, Lot 10, Sungai Wang Plaza, and Suria KLCC are all within walking distance. Around the hotel, you will also find a wide variety of cafes and restaurants, making it easy to enjoy the city's food and shopping scene.
We arrived in Kuala Lumpur for a family trip with 10 members from my partner's sister's and brother's families who had come over from Perth, along with his parents. My partner booked five rooms at The Westin, which turned out to be the perfect base for exploring the city, enjoying great food, and spending quality time together as a family.
We stayed for four nights in a deluxe twin room, which came with two single beds, a work desk, a couch, and a wall-mounted TV with limited channels, along with individually controlled air conditioning. The room also included four bottles of sealed drinking water, coffee or tea-making facilities, an in-room safe, a torchlight, a shoe mitt, two pairs of disposable slippers, complimentary Wi-Fi, a hair dryer, an iron with an ironing board, and a full set of toiletries. A particularly nice touch was the complimentary 3 ml lavender balm, provided to roll onto temples or wrists before bedtime to help promote restful sleep.
The room felt a little traditional rather than modern and was by far the dimmest hotel room we had ever stayed in. The bed was comfortable, though a little too soft for my preference. The two pillows provided didn't quite hit the mark. One was too soft and high, while the other was too firm and low, making it tricky to find the right support. It wasn't until the third day that I noticed a card in the room stating that a variety of pillows were available free of charge, including feather (100% natural feathers and down), foam (hard firm pillow), contour (100% pure latex), simulatex, and bolster (cold cure foam).
The bathroom was spacious and featured a bathtub that wasn't very clean and couldn't be filled properly because the stopper was leaking. There was a separate cubicle for the shower and toilet. The water pressure wasn't very strong, but the water was hot enough. The sink drained slowly, but after reporting it to maintenance, it was fixed and worked well. Unfortunately, the shower became clogged right after, so we requested maintenance to fix it the next day during housekeeping.
On our last night, I went to bed before my partner. As he was about to fall asleep, he suddenly felt as though someone was standing next to his side of the bed. It was such a clear sensation that he opened his eyes immediately, but there was no one there...
The hotel had a swimming pool and a 24-hour fitness studio. On level 4, there were also plenty of games, including a pool table, air hockey, foosball, ping pong, darts, and an arcade game machine. The swimming pool was open until midnight, but there was no lifeguard on duty. To access the guest room floors, simply tap your room key card and select the desired floor.
Our stay didn't include breakfast, but we added it on our second day. Breakfast was served from 6.30am to 10.30am at The Living Room, featuring Indian, Western, Malay, and Chinese dishes, along with a selection of fresh juices, and even traditional Malaysian ice cream bars (ice cream potong). The egg tarts were crunchy but on the sweet side, while the croissants were very flaky and topped with sweet almonds. The spiced fried chicken was dry, the Malaysian-style fried noodles were salty, and the vegetarian pasta was spicy. Overall, nothing really stood out, and the breakfast was disappointing, especially the flavourless chicken porridge.
Since my partner is a Marriott Bonvoy member, we were able to take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free voucher and even received one night free. As a result, we only paid RM 1,029.89 (including 8% service tax) for 5 days and 4 nights, which included breakfast for one day.
The room charges were as follows: the first night cost RM 50, the second and third nights were RM 251 each, and the final night was RM 401.60 (all before the 8% service tax). Overall, it was a great deal, and we even enjoyed a late check-out at 2pm on our final day.
