My Inn Hotel - Lahad Datu, Sabah
My Inn Hotel is located in Lahad Datu, approximately a 15-minute drive (5km) from Lahad Datu Airport. We stayed in a deluxe twin room for one night, which featured two single beds with two pillows each, a working desk, two complimentary bottles of drinking water, coffee or tea-making facilities, a wall-mounted TV with local channels only, two pairs of disposable slippers, individually controlled air conditioning, and basic toiletries. However, the room did not include a hair dryer or mini fridge, and the in-room safe was not functioning.
The room was rather small, and the bathroom was dimly lit. The toilet roll was already half used, and only one small bottle of shower gel was provided. The shower cap was not placed in the bathroom, but instead it was tucked under the desk drawer together with a Bible. Water pressure was okay, and the water was hot enough. Since there was only a head shower, my hair became fully soaked because I couldn't find the shower cap in the beginning. Besides that, the basin was too low, causing my back to ache when I brushed my teeth or washed my face.
Lift access to the room floors did not require a key card, and the corridors felt warm when stepping out from the lift. There was no gym or swimming pool in the hotel. A supermarket called Servay is located next to the hotel, and a nearby night market could be heard from our room, including people singing late into the night. The surroundings of the hotel were filled with homeless children, some of whom came up to ask for money, which was a little sad to see.
Since the in-room safe was not functioning, my partner decided to ask the maintenance to check it before we headed out for dinner. We waited, but no one came, so we called the receptionist again. We were told that the maintenance staff was resting and they had tried calling us, although the room phone did not ring. Maintenance eventually arrived at around 6.15pm to inspect the safe, went downstairs to get a battery, and returned after a while, but the safe still didn't work. He informed us that it would need to be replaced. We didn't want to wait any longer because we had dinner plans with our friends. So, we decided to leave it as it was. Overall, the service felt poor.
The next morning, I woke up at 6.50am after a restless night. The room was brightly lit since the curtains were see-through, and I could hear birds chirping and people walking along the corridor outside our room. When staying in hotels, we usually leave the bathroom light on to avoid complete darkness. However, the position of the bed and the mirror caused the bathroom light to reflect directly onto the bed. Besides that, the bed was hard, and I could feel the pocket springs beneath a single thin mattress protector. The pillow was uneven, and the softer pillow was too soft, leaving me with a sore neck. I also woke up several times throughout the night with vivid dreams.
In my first dream, I dreamed that my partner fell out of bed, and I managed to catch him. In another dream, I fell out of bed myself and felt something beneath me, making it difficult to get up, as if I were being pulled from below. Later, I dreamed of a figure sitting by the window, partially covered by the curtain, and then saw her face: a pretty woman with Middle Eastern features. I finally woke up at 6.50am, still shaken by the weird dream. I had never experienced anything so vivid before, and it felt so real that it lingered in my mind even as I started the day...
