Olive Tree Hotel is located in Bayan Lepas, just a 7-minute drive (4km) from Penang International Airport. We chose to stay at this hotel because we had a plane to catch the next morning to Bangkok. The check-in process was quite slow, and they required a second identity card for verification in order to receive a second room card. The guest parking is available from levels 3 to 5, and the hotel lobby is located on the first floor. The corridor has a musty stench, and the room design appears outdated. The room is dimly lit, and the bed is hard and bouncy. Apart from that, they only provide one pair of disposable slippers. Our deluxe room comes with a king-size bed, a wall-mounted TV, an in-room safe, an iron, an ironing board, a torchlight, a water dispenser, a pair of disposable slippers, a shoe shine mitt, complimentary Wi-Fi (fast connection), air conditioning with individual temperature control, a working desk, a small coffee table, a mini fridge, a hair dryer, complimentary snacks...

Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City Hotel is located in Butterworth. The hotel is just a 6-minute walk (450m) from Butterworth's popular street food, Rojak Tonggek (fruit skewers). We decided to stay in this hotel before departing for Alor Setar the next day. The room comes with a king-size bed, a sofa bed, a smart TV, an in-room safe, a hair dryer, a mini fridge, a yukata, two pairs of disposable slippers, a small coffee table, air conditioning with individual temperature control, complimentary Wi-Fi, two complimentary sealed (glass bottle) drinking water, coffee or tea-making facilities and complete toiletries. However, there's no iron or ironing board. The room is clean and modern. Besides that, the bed is comfy and nice.
