Empire Hotel - Subang Jaya, Selangor

The Empire Hotel Subang is situated next to the Empire Shopping Gallery and just 4 minutes walk (300m) from Subang Parade. We decided to stay in this hotel because we will be attending training at SS15 Courtyard. The training center is just 10 minutes walk (700m) from the hotel. The hotel allows us to check in early at 1pm.

We stayed six nights in a premier essential room that comes with a king-size bed, a wall mounted TV with 20 channels, air conditioning with individual temperature control, two complimentary bottles of drinking water, coffee or tea making facilities, a spacious work station, an in-room safe, an iron and ironing board, a mini fridge, a wall mounted hair dryer, complimentary Wi-Fi and basic toiletries. Disposable slippers and facial tissues are only available upon request. However, on our third day, the hotel ran out of facial tissues and during house keeping, they failed to provide us with a floor towel, which we had to wait at least two hours for them to send.

The room is spacious, but it appears old, not very clean and dim. However, I like the concept of diving the workstation, bedroom and bathroom. The bed sheets are stained and the hair dryer handle is sticky. Apart from that, there are a lot of plaster bagworms hanging from the ceiling directly above our bed. Just like any other hotel, the in-room safe is not operational, and the hotel room phone is stuffed inside the safe. We must wait for maintenance to repair the in-room safe and hotel room phone. Shouldn't it be a standard procedure for the hotel to ensure that everything is in order before the new guests arrive?

The bathroom has a sliding door with no lock. Apart from that, water splashes all over the toilet area due to half-walled shower area. When the bathroom floor is wet, it becomes very slippery. The hotel only provides one small bottle of shower gel, which is insufficient for the two of us. Not to mention, they did not provide any shower cap and just had a rain shower. So my hair was completely drenched after showering.

While staying in a hotel, we used to switch on the bathroom light at night. However, because the wall is partially translucent, the toilet light cannot be switched on at night as the room will be too bright. We noticed one of the lights near the bathroom corridor was flickering the day before we checked out. So my partner decided to call maintenance to fix the flickering light. Again, we waited for more than two hours and no one showed up. After making another phone call, maintenance finally arrived. Basically, the hotel is severely understaffed and customer service is very poor. Aside from that, there were no facilities at the hotel. The only security is that you must use your room key card at the lift to obtain access to the room floor.
