Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa (2D1N) - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Finally, the government is easing restrictions for fully vaccinated people. Since my partner has bought this KK Luxury Escape (KKLE) package which includes 1 night stay at Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa, we decided to have a short staycation. So we checked in at 1pm, walked around the resort, relaxed in our mountain view room and had our dinner at Coco Joe's Bar & Grill. It was raining that day hence I was unable to capture any sunset photos. Tanjung Aru Beach is one of the perfect spots to view the stunning sunset with your loved one.
It happened to be Friday and they had this buffet dinner set - RM 98 per adult, add RM30 nett per person for unlimited beverages such as STAR's signature Borneoska cocktail, Borneoska mocktail, wine, beer, freshly brewed coffee and tea. (All prices are inclusive 6% government tax). Every Friday and Saturday they have live band performance from 6pm to 10pm and fire dance + live DJ performance on every Saturday.
Our buffet dinner set comes with a welcome bite (sliced Sourdough bread with Chimichurri dip and pineapple chutney), main course (marinated chicken drumsticks with citrus & olive oil, chimichurri rub on striploin steak, juicy beef kebab with sweet onion, lamb sausages with mint & pineapple chutney, spicy chicken sausages and Cajun spiced mackerel with herb butter), sides (barley salad with orange vinaigrette, black bean taco salad, Brazilian potato salad with olives, raisins, cilantro, spring onion and lime juice, grilled corn with honey mayo and grilled pineapples) and dessert (Pina colada pudding).
Buffet dinner was so so. The chicken just ain't no good as it's lack of flavour. Spicy chicken sausages on the other side was just too salty for me and lamb sausages had a strong gamey taste. Sad to say that the only dish that I enjoyed the most was the sourdough bread and grilled corn with honey mayo. Halfway through our dinner the live band started. I love live music and can sit for hours listening to it but not this one. Somehow it doesn't suit my music taste. So after dinner, we took a quick stroll along the beach before heading back to our room.
Next day, we woke up at 9am and had our buffet breakfast at Cafe Tatu. Breakfast start from 6am to 10.30am. Restaurant is clean and well organised. Guests are required to wear disposable gloves when scooping up food from the buffet corner. Cafe Tatu serves variety of pastries, fried egg, omelette, nasi lemak, fried rice, fried noodle, soup noodles, hash browns, pancakes, waffles, sausages, ham, salad, fruits, yogurts, sushi, cheese and juice. I enjoyed their nasi lemak and roti canai. Overall the food was ok, less variety compared to Coffee Terrace (Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa) buffet breakfast that we had few years back.
We checked out at 1pm and that ends our short staycation. We have completed the 1st KK Luxury Escape package and 3 more to go...
