Our stay at the LA Hotel, Tawau comes with complimentary breakfast for 2 adults. My partner decided not to have breakfast at the hotel as he wanted to explore food in Tawau. Me on the other hand, woke up early and had the hotel breakfast alone. Breakfast start from 6.30am to 10am. By the time I went down for breakfast it's almost 9.30am. They served simple breakfast such as chicken rice, mee hoon tomyam, soy sauce chicken, stir fried vegetables, baked bean and hash brown. There's no porridge and they did not top up any fresh fruits after 9.30am. You may order one set of egg meal only (either fried egg or half boiled egg) from the counter. However, hard boiled egg and omelette is unavailable. I ordered fried egg with baked bean and it's good.

I waited for my partner to get ready and we went out at 10.20am to Union Tea House. It's located at Jalan Sin Onn, 7 minutes drive (3.2km) from LA Hotel. It's so convenient to use Grab car and also the hassle free way to explore Tawau town. (Grab fare - RM 5). Union Tea House is one of the best tea house in Tawau and we ordered their specialty homemade mayo egg sandwich. On top of that my partner ordered half boiled egg and I ordered an egg tart. I regret ordering their specialty lime juice because it's way too sour for me. My partner's Teh C Ping is nice. It's smooth, creamy and not too sweet.
Their homemade mayo egg sandwich is good. The egg texture is soft and fluffy. Same goes for the bread. I waited for my egg tart for quite some time. I saw few egg tarts on the food warmer display but instead of serving that to us they packed it for a guy who just arrived! When I asked the waiter, then only they realized they have missed out my order. They ran out of freshly baked egg tarts and the next batch will only be ready in 1 hour's time. I don't think I will wait an hour under the loud rattling sound that came directly from the fan above us, just to try their egg tart. So we left the shop. We walked over to Lean Fu Tang temple which is just opposite Union Tea House. However, the temple is close until further notice.

Pasar Tanjung Tawau is located at the town centre, just 7 minutes drive (4.3km) from Union Tea House. (Grab fare - RM 5). It's a local market selling all sort of local delicacies, vegetables, fruits, dry seafood, t-shirts and clothes. We took a quick stroll before heading over to Pasar Ikan Tawau which is just opposite Pasar Tanjung Tawau. There's various types of fish such as stingray, pufferfish, hammerhead shark and many more.

Tawau Bell Tower is just 2 minutes walking distance (500m) from Pasar Ikan Tawau. This bell tower was built in 1921 with funds provided by local Japanese businessmen and the only historical building to survive 2nd world war. It is built to commemorate signing of armistice following 1st world war in 1918 when Japan was an ally of Great Britain. However, we don't see any bell in the tower.

We skipped lunch and had tea break instead at 12.30pm since both of us still feeling full after our brunch at Union Tea House. So we took a Grab car from Tawau Bell Tower to Indo Cafe located at Jalan Bantu. (Grab fare - RM 4). Indo Cafe is just 5 minutes drive (1.6km) from Tawau Bell Tower. This cafe is popular for their dessert and pisang goreng cheese (banana fritters). We ordered mango sago and one set of pisang goreng cheese. You can choose to add additional cheese, brown sugar, milo, nuts or milk to your pisang goreng.
Mango sago is nice but slightly sweet after the first bite. They use frozen sago which gives a nice texture in the mouth. Perfect combination with the sweet mango. Pisang goreng cheese serve with cheese and brown sugar is yummy too. It's crispy on the outside and the banana is sweet on the inside. Indo Cafe is within walking distance to LA Hotel. We decided to walk back to our hotel (3 minutes walking distance - 550m) after our tea break.

Dozo is just 4 minutes walking distance (650m) from
LA Hotel. Feeling hungry, we walked to Dozo at 3.20pm and ordered a bowl of Soto noodles with fish balls, fried fish and fresh fish. You get to mix and match your own noodles soup. There's four types of soup for you to choose from - soto, hot & sour, pure tomato or bitter gourd and five types of noodles for you to choose from - gon lou mee, kueh teow, plain noodles, vermicelli or spring noodles. Besides that, you have to choose the main dish - chicken, beef, fish ball, fish (fried/fresh), prawn, dumpling (steam/fried) and wanton (steam/fried).
We ordered supreme chocolate ice blended and it's good. Rich chocolate flavour and not too sweet. We love the gon lou noodle texture too. It's soft and chewy. Soto soup on the other hand is flavourful and tasty. Fried fish taste better than the fresh fish. However, both are fresh. Their fish ball texture taste like Fuzhou fish ball which I don't really fancy as it's more doughy rather than springy to the bite. Chili is spicy and best eaten together with the main dish. Overall we love the food here and will definitely be back in the future.

We had our dinner at Leong Porridge House, 9 minutes drive (4km) from LA Hotel. (Grab fare - RM 5). When we arrived, there's people waiting outside the restaurant. There's no numbering system and no waiting line. So we asked one of the staff who's screened our temperature where we should queue. He told us to stand outside the restaurant and wait for the owner to inform us if there's empty seats. So we stood there and when the restaurant owner came, she has no idea who came first. Instead of asking us, she went and approached two guys who came later than us. I walked towards her and told her that we came first! At last, we got a seat...
We ordered satay, kono noodles with bbq pork, salted egg prawn porridge and century egg pork porridge. Satay (skewered meat) is flavourful but too hard for my liking. However, my partner loves it. Both the porridge is good but I prefer the century egg pork porridge. It's silky smooth with no lumps. Kono noodles on the other hand is tasteless and bbq pork doesn't taste good at all. After dinner we took a Grab car back to our hotel. (Grab fare - RM 5). No dessert hunting for tonight as we have eaten too much for dinner.
