Tawau/Semporna - Day 5 (Kapalai Dive Resort - Tawau Town)

It's our final day here in Kapalai Dive Resort and I woke up at 5am hoping to see the sunrise. The weather was cloudy on the horizon and two days in a row I was unable to see the sunrise. Sigh... wasted my effort of waking up early but look on the bright side, I spotted ISS passes above Orion's Belt! I went back to sleep and woke up again at 8am for breakfast. Simple breakfast but I like their prawn porridge and fried egg. My partner ordered an omelet and he loves it. They served fried noodles, hams, bread, buns, fried yam coated with sugar and fruits. The fried noodles doesn't taste great and ham is a bit dry. Both red bean bread and yam coated with sugar is too sweet for my liking but the yam is good. Compared to yesterday's breakfast, there's not much variety.

Nothing beats chilling out in a hammock after breakfast. We checked out at 12pm and since there's no phone in our chalet, we have to use our mobile phone to call for buggy service. We waited for lunch at 12.30pm and overall lunch is good. They served flat bread, tofu, fried vegetables, curry chicken, bitter gourd, vegetables, fish, salad, melon soup, desserts and fruits. If you asked me to choose between Kapalai Dive Resort or Mabul Water Bungalow Resort, I will definitely choose Kapalai Dive Resort. I felt that Mabul Water Bungalow Resort is overpriced and not to mention that we're disappointed with their food quality.

We departed from Kapalai Dive Resort at 1.30pm and there's only ten of us in the boat including the captain. Halfway through the journey, there's rubbish stuck in the boat propeller. So, the captain had to get off his seat and walked to the back of the boat to check on the propeller. He stood at the edge of the boat checking on the outboard motor and wasn't wearing any life jacket. Luckily he didn't fall into the water. It started to get bumpy in the middle of the journey. Our captain avoided the waves by moving left and right. It was indeed an unpleasant ride and I felt like riding a roller coaster.

Finally we arrived safely at Semporna Jetty around 2.15pm. We dragged our luggage and walked over to Tealive which is just 5 minutes walking distance from the jetty. We took a break and had a glass of roasted milk tea with grass jelly. We were undecided whether to stay overnight at Tawau or Semporna. Ended up we decided to stay at LA Hotel in Tawau. So we took a Grab ride all the way from Seafest Square, Semporna to Tawau. (Grab fare - RM 112). The journey took approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes. We checked in the hotel at 5.30pm and took a rest before heading out for dinner at 6.40pm.

We walked to New Millennium Food Lounge, 2 minutes walking distance (450m) from LA Hotel. Our friend recommended this restaurant to us. It looks like an old-fashioned shop and the restaurant's signboard is broken. A small dingy place and only two tables were occupied. We ordered sweet and sour fish fillet, kangkung belacan and salad prawn. Surprisingly the food taste good. There's a hint of spiciness in the sweet and sour fish fillet dish. I like their slightly crispy fish as well. Overall we are satisfied with our dinner despite my kit chai ping (plum juice) is a bit sour.

After diner we walked around the area looking for a dessert shop and we saw this newly open shop selling soft serve ice cream. I love soft serve ice cream and without further hesitation, we walked into the shop and ordered a cup of chocolate vanilla ice cream. It's creamy and smooth. Glad that I ordered mixture of chocolate and vanilla because the vanilla is a bit too sweet for my liking. Their soft serve chocolate ice cream is good. The area is a bit quiet at night and we're the only customer there. We decided to head back to our hotel after dinner. Co. Drink is just 2 minutes walking distance (400m) from LA Hotel.
