Tawau/Semporna - Day 4 (Kapalai Dive Resort)
I set an alarm for 5.45am so that I can wake up in time for sunrise at 6am. However the weather was cloudy and it started to rain. One of the best things you can do on a rainy day is to continue to sleep. So I slept till 8am and went for breakfast. Since it's still raining quite heavily, we decided to call the buggy service as our room is quite far away from the dining area. Simple breakfast but if compared to Mabul Water Bungalow Resort, it is considered luxury. There's an egg station whereby you can request either egg sunny side, omelet or scrambled egg. I just love their chicken porridge which is simple but nice while my partner likes their fried banana fritters.
There's a chill area beside the dining area overlooking the sea. We hang around until the rain stopped at 10am. We walked over to the reception area and decided to extend another day in Kapalai Dive Resort. The rate is still the same for last minute room extension - RM 450/pax including return boat transfer, 1 night accommodation (twin sharing basis) and full board meals. Instead of staying in the same chalet, we requested to change a new chalet because the existing chalet has a lot of issues. You may read the problem that we faced with the chalet by clicking on my previous blog here. We took a buggy back to our chalet and not long after that, they came again to help us move our things to another chalet just a few doors away.
We had our lunch at 12.30pm. They served lamb fried rice (strong gamey taste), steamed chicken, mini pizza, cuttlefish with cucumbers and pineapples, fish, brinjals, mango salad, vegetables, variety of cakes and fruits. Fish is good and I just love their beef soup. However, there's one thing that they can improve is to have a food labels / buffet tag. This will help people to identify food that they are allergic or sensitive to. At the same time, at least we know the dishes that we are having.
After lunch we walked around the resort before chilling in our chalet. Basically there's nothing much you can do in the resort besides eating, chilling or snorkeling. There's an Aquaculture Reef Guardian but it's closed to visitors. I went for my tea break at 4.30pm while my partner went for in house snorkeling session. I waited for the sunset at the artificial island but too bad the weather was cloudy.
We had our dinner at 7pm and as usual we had a fantastic meal. Their chef is good at making soups. I might say I love every single soup that they served. Fish is fresh and humongous. In fact, they are very generous in serving the food and you may go as many rounds as you like. They served Pad Thai as well, a popular Thailand dish. Love the rice noodles texture and they gave plenty of shrimps too. While having our dinner, one of the resort guests went around asking whether anyone saw his phone tripod. He left his gadget at the artificial island after taking sunset photos with his girl friend. However, nobody has seen it. Pity him as he looked so depressed. We suggested that he check with the resort staff as they might have CCTV camera around that area. He mentioned that he already did. Unfortunately, there's no CCTV camera at the artificial island. I wonder who's the culprit.
After dinner we went to the artificial beach for star gazing. It's a good spot for taking Milky Way photos. However, there's nobody there except us and I presumed some resort staff chilling there as well. I wanted to stay a little longer but somehow it's just too quiet and I don't feel safe to hang out there. Ended up we went back to our chalet and call it a day.
