Miri, Sarawak - Day 2 (Lian Hua San Ching Tien Temple - Hai Long Si Temple - Lutong Beach - The Grand Old Lady - Petroleum Museum - Canada Hill - Miri Handicraft Centre - Tusan Cliff)
We decided to have dim sum for brunch at Ming Garden Restaurant on our 2nd day in Miri. This restaurant is 7 minutes drive (4km) from Pullman Miri Waterfront. The restaurant was quite empty when we walked in and only two tables were occupied. I ordered my favourite dim sum, bean curd prawn roll with mayonnaise. I was quite disappointed because instead of prawn they stuffed too much meat in it. Besides that, we ordered pork porridge with century egg, rice flour roll with prawn and siew mai. Pork porridge wasn't flavourful enough but they were quite generous with the portion size. Overall, we were not impressed with our brunch.

We had our lunch at Leaf Village located at Lutong. Since I'm still quite full from our earlier brunch, I decided to order mee sua instead. The mee sua comes with a perfect half-boiled egg, black fungus, mushrooms and chicken drumstick. The soup has a unique taste of herb with a hint of bitterness. Instead of paying RM 7 a bowl, the owner gave us a RM 1 discount due to the smaller portion of chicken drumstick that has been served. We were quite surprise because suddenly out of no where the owner came over and told us that we just need to pay RM 6 instead of RM 7 for this bowl of mee sua.
My partner ordered Lalapan set with grilled pork served with steam rice, tomato, cucumber, tauhu (bean curd), tempe (a type of food made from fermented soya beans) and the house special sambal. You can choose either one side or two sides and there's six types of sides for you to choose from:
1. Nasi goreng babi salai/pusuk (to replace steam rice add RM 1.50)
2. Daun ubi (sweet potato leaves)
3. Cabbage
4. Kacang panjang (long beans)
5. Kacang bendi (lady's finger)
6. Terung (brinjal)
The grilled pork is good. Best eaten together with their house special sambal which is quite spicy for me. This restaurant served free soup as well.

On the way to Petroleum Museum, we dropped by Lutong beach and took some photos. The weather was so hot and right after taking some photos, I quickly jumped back into the car. There's no proper parking area for you to park your car.

It took us approximately 14 minutes (10.9km) to drive from Lutong beach to Petroleum Museum. The museum is located on a hilltop called Canada Hill overlooking Miri town. The main attraction here is the Miri's first oil well named The Grand Old Lady. Entrance to the museum is free of charge but it's poorly maintained. We were the only visitor at that time. There's a Hazard Bistro just next to the Petroleum Museum that has permanently closed.

Miri Handicraft Centre is just 6 minutes drive (3.2km) from Petroleum Museum. Some items are priced on the higher side. So you need to be prepared to bargain. I managed to get some souvenirs for my niece and nephew. It's a comfortable place to shop for souvenirs as it's fully air conditioned. However, there's not many outlets and majority of them are selling the same thing.

We had our tea break at Yummy Rojak House. We ordered cendol & peanut, rojak, sotong kangkung and cucur udang. The cendol was okay. Both of us love the rojak especially the sauce. I like the sotong kangkung too as the vegetable is fresh but the sauce is a bit sourish compared to the rojak sauce. Cucur udang on the other hand was nice and crispy. It would be perfect if they add in more sauce. Overall we're satisfied with our tea break.

We drove all the way to Tusan cliff after we had our tea break and the journey took us approximately 46 minutes (43km). Along the way, certain areas have no network coverage. There's a signboard showing Tusan beach but we just ignored it as we blindly followed the Google map. We realized we have missed the turning once we regained our network coverage. Finally, we reached Tusan beach before the sunset. There's no proper parking lot as the area is under some construction.
In order to get to the beach, you need to make you way down a rough path from the top of the cliff. Along the beach you can find interesting rock formations and the sunset was simply breathtaking but watch out for the sand flies!

We left Tusan beach right after the sunset as the area is not properly lit. Apart from that, there's no street lights at certain part of the road heading toward the town. It took us another 45 minutes drive (40km) to reach Apollo Seafood Centre located in Miri town. We decided to have seafood for dinner. We ordered 4 dishes - vegetables, steamed tiger prawns with Chinese wine, bullfrog "kong pou" style and salted baked fish. Overall, dinner was good. Fresh seafood and my favourite dish of the night was the steamed tiger prawns with Chinese wine.
