Poring Hot Spring - Ranau, Sabah
One of the places of interest in Ranau is Poring Hot Spring. It's approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu Airport or 45 minutes drive from Kundasang town. The climate in Ranau is warm compared to Kundasang which has lowest temperature of 11'C when we were at Bundu Tuhan last year.
There's open-air and enclosed bath tub for you to enjoy the hot spring water which contains sulfur. Apart from that there's tub for soaking your legs too. Basically, you can spend the whole day here as there's canopy walkway, slide pool, butterfly farm, Orchid garden and Tropical garden. We started off with soaking our legs in the hot spring water. The water was really hot and it took us quite a while to completely soaked our legs in. After soaking I can feel my skin refreshed and velvety smooth!
We didn't go to the butterfly farm, Orchid and Tropical garden. We only went to the Canopy walkway, Kipungit waterfall and bat cave. Certain pathway to the bat cave was narrow and steep. Make sure you have the right footwear before you start your journey to the bat cave. Visitors are not encourage to enter the cave. We didn't see or hear a single bat! We were feeling hungry and in fact not intended to walked to the Langanan waterfall which is another 3.3km away from the bat cave!
So, we walked back and had our late lunch at the Rainforest restaurant. My partner and his cousin had nasi goreng kampung (local style fried rice topped with fried egg, chicken or beef satay and crispy papadam served with fried chicken) while I had fried noodles (your preferred choice of vermicelli, yellow or broad rice noodles, stir-fried with seafood or chicken) Food is okay but I find it expensive. Overall, we had a great time and it's great to get back to nature once in a while.
