One day "makan trip" - Kepong, Kuala Lumpur

We were colleagues once and grew to be good friends later... Six of us - 3 ok looking bachelors and 3 pretty "aunties". :) We did crazy things together, travelled together, shared our happy and sad moments together and "cari makan" together. However due to our hectic lifestyles, it's quite difficult to get everyone together. Only 5 of us managed to turn up this time.

We decided to make it a one day "makan trip" in Kepong. Our first stop of the day was "Ah Yee" curry mee located at Kepong Baru. We ordered curry noddles and chee cheung fun (steamed flat rice noodles). You get to choose your noodles and majority of us preferred the combination of bee hoon (rice vermicelli) and mee (thin yellow noodles).

Curry mee comes with bean sprouts, long beans, cockles, fried beancurd sheets, fried pig skin and slices of bbq pork. The curry is light, diluted and less spicy. Both the curry mee and curry chee cheung fun shared the same curry soup. Due to the diluted curry soup, the chee cheung fun turned out to be tasteless for me. Curry chee cheong fun comes with shredded pork, fried beancurd sheets, mushrooms, fried shallots and spring onions. What I like about this dish is the shredded pork. It's very flavourful and best eaten together with the chee cheung fun.

Price: RM30.60 - 2 bowls of curry mee, 2 plates of chee cheung fun and 4 glasses of drinks

Same row as "Ah Yee" curry mee, famous for their fried stuff and lovely dessert is KTZ (Kei Tak Sek). They opened many outlets in Klang Valley and the very first KTZ is in Kepong. One thing good about eating here is they don't forced you to buy their wet tissue. Previously when I went to SS2 KTZ, it was compulsory to pay for the wet tissue even though we refuse to use it! In another words, use it or not you still have to pay for the wet tissue which I find it ridiculous.

Each of us ordered a bowl of dessert and one of my favourite dessert besides mango loh is the water chestnut. Sugar level just right and you get to eat the chunky bit of the water chestnut. It will be perfect if cold water chestnut is available. Besides dessert, we ordered radish cake as well. It was delicious. Texture was just right. Not too soft and not too hard. Thanks to Eason for the dessert treat!

We had our tea break in a Vietnamese Cafe - Lien Phat Vietnamese Bread House. Sean and Mike loves their iced Vietnamese coffee. Since I'm not a coffee lover, I ordered iced sour plum drink which turned out to be very refreshing. Not too sour and not too sweet. We ordered a plate of fried spring roll, hot & spicy Vietnamese soup noodles and pork chop sandwich.

The spring roll was good. Crispy on the outside and best eaten with the dipping sauce. Apart from that, the pork chop sandwich was tasty too. Freshly baked baguettes filled with pork chop, cucumber, onions, carrots and parsley. The Vietnamese soup noodles was a bit spicy for me. The noodles look like thin kueh teow and the texture was smooth and slightly chewy. The noodles comes with fish balls and shredded chicken. Thanks to Mike for the tea break treat!

We wanted to try the so called Malacca satay celup in Kepong for our dinner but unfortunately the shop has been closed down. Ended up we had our dinner at De Pastry Chef. I ordered Krugi plum - Japanese cucumber plum. First sip, I can actually taste the strong melon-like. However when I leave the plum in longer, it actually took over the melon-like taste and the drink turned out to be nice.

My buddies ordered slimming beauty, miss fitness and detoxin mix. I don't really fancy detoxin mix as the celery taste gets too strong for me. Whereas I find both slimming beauty and miss fitness a bit diluted.

Slimming beauty - apple, tomato, lemon & carrot (RM 6)
Miss fitness - apple, orange & carrot (RM 6)
Detoxin mix - tomato, lemon, cucumber & celery (RM 6)

We ordered a wild mushroom wholemeal bread as our appetizer and it was nice. I like the wholemeal bread as it's soft and the combination of mushroom soup and bread was perfect. Everyone ordered pasta and mine was the chicken bolognaise. All the pasta comes with the side dishes - garlic bread and fresh salad. I didn't managed to finished the garlic bread because it taste like leftover bread for me. Overall the food was so-so. Thanks to Capoh and Sean for the dinner treat... Can't wait for our next makan trip...
